In the June issue of ESPN the Mag, in the NFL tidbit section, it states

Don't be shocked if Kyle Orton beats out Rex Grossman for the Bears' starting QB job. Chicago Coaches are impressed by how much Orton has grown physically and mentally during the past year..

This was what I was hoping would happen with our QB situation. Neither QB's are guaranteed a spot, and must now fight on the same level platform for a starting job. Now that there's not so much pressure on Orton to try and take away the job from Rex, he may be finally settling in. Kyle knows the playbook (probably better than Rex) so I'm hoping he gets the job and shows everyone that even though you don't have the strongest arm, you can still be effective on the field. (fingers crossed)

Kyle suits this offense better than Rex does. Rex can't make the short pass and always over mails it when throwing to the sidelines. Although Rex can make the long pass, those opportunities won't be available, if you can't set them up with the inside-out with the short passing game.

Kyle is somewhat the opposite. He doesn't look for the opportunity to long ball it as much as Rex, and he isn't as accurate on down-field passes, but he's consistent on short passes, and is good enough to make the long pass once in awhile.

The Bears should be passing the long ball once-in-awhile, or at least not as much as Rex looks for it.

If Kyle starts it will prove to me we're going to go back to a pure running offense.

I would like to see Orton given the starting spot. He won't go out and win us a bunch of games, but he'll manage the offense, and won't lose games for us. If our D is back to form, we could win a lot of games with Orton.

I hope we have a plan for the year after this because I dont' want either of these guys to be our long term answer.

Unfortunately there are not that many decent free agent quarterbacks available. If the other positions on this team are solid maybe we go quarterback first in next years draft.

I was aware of this and that's why I was upset we didn't get Brohm in the 2nd round instead of Forte. There were a lot of Forte's in this years draft and we may have reached a little early on him. I can only trust Angelo's judgement that he is a player and not another waste of a pick like Wolfe.

Sorry bro, but theres a reason why Brohm fell to the 2nd round. Cause he's a reach QB. Alot of risk, with a lot of reward. Would it have been nice if we did draft him? Of course, a new face at QB is always nice with the Bears, but honestly if Forte becomes the stud we're all saying he will and he makes us forget about Benson, who would have been the better pick? Forte or Brohm?

Not to mention that, lets say we did draft Brohm. Preseason starts and Lovie states that the QB position is wide open. Brohm gets the nod, but after 6 games, he becomes the Ryan Leaf of the franchise. At this point, I'm sure the media, as well as the fans are calling for his head. So now what do we do? Give the ball to Rex or Kyle, then START ALL OVER again the following season?

We drafted these 2 not too long ago. Let's give them 1 more fair chance (at least for Orton) to win us over. Orton might not have look good the last few games of the season last year, but how much confidence do you have when you know your not making it to the playoffs, its a sub-par defense, with an even more sub-par offense, and you don't even know if you'll be with this team next year?

As BEP said, if it does become a running offense with Forte and Benson, we'll be ok with Orton and his short passes to Olson and Clark.

Don't forget:

short passes and running the ball = maintaining the clock

Maintaining the clock = less time for our defense to be on the field

less time for our defense to be on the field = more chances of preventing injury

more chances of preventing injury =

I honestly believe that either QB can be successful IF we get a running game going and solid pass protection.

That was the biggest problem last year. No run game, shotty pass blocking gave no one a chance, weather it was Rex, Orton, or Griese.

I'm pulling for Orton to win the job, becuase he's more of a game manager than Rex. If Forte, Benson and the TE's can move the chains..we have a chance.

Agree on Orton. We need more game management from the QB, and not really winning potential from the position.

RB and TE must take the load.

Just cause it says he's grown physically, doesn't mean he got taller or bigger. What it probably means that he's in better shape than he was the past couple of years. More likely it means he put on more muscle.
