It just popped up on the Bottomline, while ATH is talking about Benson. Mariotti finishes his portion by saying "Cut Him Now."

I find that funny.

But seriously, don't let the door hit you in your giant bust of an ass when you head out.

Dang you was fast on reporting it. You reported it faster than I did & I was watching ATH & on realgm while it was being reported.

I was refreshing www.chicagosports.com since I figured something was going down since Benson wasn't at OTA's.

John Clayton mentioned Kevin Jones as a possible target for us.

You can never trust them Texas boys (i.e. see Ricky Williams, and soon, you'll see Vince Young). I actually wished we could've kept him on the team, and not paid him or suspended without pay.

Can we trade some aging player to get back Thomas Jones? :)

man..i hate the fact that i defended him getting a starting position last summer. I'm so sorry Thomas Jones. sigh...

Hated Benson when we drafted him.
Hated when we traded Jones to make room for him (though I understood it).

And though I don't think there's any chance Benson goes on to have a good career, I'm not a big fan of cutting him now either. His actions haven't been top notch, but going into this season with Matt Forte and crap isn't such a sweet prospect either.

Not sure if there are any RB FAs out there who don't entirely suck, but we should be in the market for one now.

Only RB's I might be interested in are Shaun Alexander(Even though he's washed up now) and Kevin Jones.

The only other I can think of that might be starter or at least backup material is Lamont Jordan.

Even when Benson himself was on the roster,it isn't like we were set at RB.I'd say that Alexander(Even though he's aging, soft, and kind of a wash-up now),Jones, and Jordan would all probably bring more to the table than Benson would have anyways.

I had no faith that he would be able to magically turn it all around, and actually become a good RB,so good riddance.

Bears set the example by actually cutting someone useful in Tank Johnson,so a bum like Cedric Benson should get even less leeway.

God, what a waste of a draft pick.

I thought Jones and Benson both had average seasons in our '06 run. But I also thought moving Jones was okay because he was on the declining part of his career and that it was just the beginning of Benson's career.

I am interested in Kevin Jones more so than the other names that have been mentioned. He is younger and has a higher "ceiling" (if that's the correct term) to produce.

Once again this falls into the whole Pacman Jones/Tank Johnson fiasco of last year. The media played a big role in this cut. Honestly, I wouldn't have cut him. I would of benched him or suspended him for the season. Let him rot on the bench where he belongs. I don't believe he'll have a good career, but I do believe he will play again this season, which is something I don't want to see. I'd rather swallow some pride and eat his pay while he rots on the bench, then cut him.

I really think that when Tank got in trouble for the umpteenth time last year, the Bears had nothing they could do but to cut him to show how strongly they feel about character. Now instead of doing the logical thing like suspending Benson, they jump on the "waiver" bandwagon and quickly waive him before the media jumps on the organization and declares the Bears as a team filled with "thugs".

I guess I'm happy that we cut Benson, but if I see him play this year, I may throw up a little.

Stay away from Lamont Jordan, Travis Henry, Shaun Alexander.

Kevin Jones is the only name that makes sense.

Or talk to teams with a surplus of RBs...maybe the Titans Chris Henry or Aaron Stecker from New Orleans.

I'm resisting the urge to say "I told you so" about this. I tried telling people that trading Jones was a mistake, and that Benson shouldn't get the starting job until he earns it, yet I was still hoping that Ced would prove me wrong and develop into a productive starter. Guess now we know he wont and at least we can move on and head in a different direction.

I think everyone had that thought when the Bears did trade Jones. However, you can't blame the Bears for what they did.

They put their future in Benson by drafting him #4, and you can't pay somebody millions to be the back up running back. and honestly, Jones didn't do much with the Jets so far. However both have pretty had O-Lines, so its kinda irrelevant to judge on stats alone.

Wow - I was really surprised the Bears cut him. I thought at least they would wait and see how the trail came out. Can't say I'll miss his diving to the ground whenever the defense was near. This might be the jolt he needs to get back on track - he has talent. What a waste of a #4 pick.

You can't blame the Bears for trading Jones. But what you DO blame the Bears for is drafting Benson in the first place. Jones played 1 year for the Bears and amassed 1375 yards for them in that first season.

The big mistake is that instead of waiting until the 3rd or 4th round, like any other team, to draft a complimentary RB the Bears decided to go for broke. And bankrupt they are from that draft.

Don't blame the Bears for trading Jones, blame them for drafting Benson.

I was excited when the Bears drafted Benson, but the difference is that I don't run the team. And to be honest, I wanted the Bears to trade down and draft Mike Williams. He was a bust too, but would being forced to cut Mike Williams this season really make the Bears WR's any worse?

Just for fun...

3rd round or later RB's drafted in '05
Frank Gore
Marion Barber
Brandon Jacobs
Madison Hedgecock

I'd take 3 out of those 4 RB's. And 1 of them has a pretty good porno name, so he has 1 up on Benson already.[/quote]

I'm getting sick of teams/leagues taking action against players before the court system has found them to be guilty or not.
