He's been playing with the starters and has impressed coaches quite a bit. I didn't like him much last season, but he did show some flashes. Was too inconsistent, though.
Maybe someone out of Manning, McGowan, Steltz, and Payne, hopefully two, will develop into good starters so we won't miss that much if (when) Brown goes down.

McGowan has potential, and it should help his game if he can play along side Mike Brown. Babich predicted him to be the guy on the defense to have a breakout year.
It also looks like Manning is being used primarily as a nickel back. I guess with Stelz and Payne serving as the backup safety's. With some of Manning's poor tackling last year, I like him playing the nickel rather than safety.
