Chiefs @ Bears: Postgame thoughts

Random thoughts:

- Orton looked bad against 1st stringers, Rex looked marginally worse against 2nd and 3rd stringers
- Sight seen: Orton fumbling the ball on a roll-out without being touched. Ugly.
- Sight seen: Rex still throwing off his back foot. And looking tense.
- After the first series where he looked nervous, Hanie looked like he belonged. I never get excited by guys doing well in the 4th quarter of 1st preseason games but he deserves props.
- Hey, Bazuin, that OT is going to give you that outside pass rush ALL DAY. Learn another move.
- Man, Hester did nothing on returns but he sure gets the crowd fired up. Chills.
- Is Earl Bennett really the backup kick and punt returner? Really ?!? Bru-tal.
- Monk and Bennett with some nice drops in clutch time. Hanie would like to see you both in the parking lot.
- Forte. Me likey.
- I was ready to rip Wolfe a new one after he went down with a nothing arm tackle on his first run but, given some space, he can sure boogy. Now do it against 1st stringers, Garrett. Show me.
- Sight seen: penalty flag on EVERY SINGLE kickoff or punt return.
- Either the Bears starting DL is very, very good or that Chiefs OL is pathetic. When they weren't getting abused, the OL was holding. Should have been called for another hold on the first rushing TD the Chiefs had, in fact.
- Didn't notice "Captain America" Olsen a bunch except for a holding call.
- Booker looked old.
- How are we supposed to figure out who starts at WR if we don't have QBs who get it to them?? I mean Davis and Hester had nice catches but I counted all of 2 catches between them.
- Hass....just....catches....the.....ball. This is going to be another preseason where he catches the uncatchable and still can't make the team, though. Frustrating. I know he doesn't look the part but aren't WRs supposed to catch the ball?
- Secondary got toasted. Tillman - who missed a ton of camp - got beat more than once. Graham and McBride didn't fare much better. Safeties late in coverage.
- Hey, #45, Troy Polamalu called - even he says you need a haircut.
- Gould's kickoffs were deep and in the corner - just the way you like 'em.... until the last one.
- I'm actually kind of glad Gould kicked that last kickoff out of bounds to set up the Chiefs final TD drive. Lovie was playing not to lose by running the ball deep in Chiefs territory late in the game on 3rd down to set up the FG. Weak. Gotta go for it, Lovie - can't rely on your defense every time. Especially in a preseason game. LEARN.

And that's all I have to say about that.

I like to point out how brutal our passing is. 187 yards to Kansas Chief's(oh my god) 254 yards.

That's not all.

Our leading recievers?

Pope - 4 catches - 39 yards
Wolfe - 1(o_o) catch - 25 yards
Davis - 1(<_<;) catch - 25 yards

Then a slew of receivers with one catch, and Forte/Polite with 3 and 2 respectively.

Incorporate that into the amount of dropped balls we had, I think we're going to have a very very brutal passing game.

Anyone want to bet on the first receiver over 50 yards?

I don't know why I thought this season would be any different. We could have the next Jerry Rice on our team and we wouldn't know it because our QBs are just terrible. And I'm well aware this was the first preseason game we just saw - and I'm sure Lovie will remind us all of that a thousand times - but this is the same old song and dance we've always seen.

Orton would get on somewhat of a roll then choke on 3rd down. Grossman just looked really tight and overly careful. Just a bunch of nothing drives that take no time off the clock and put pressure on the defense. Soooo....unless something crazy happens like picking up Pennington we're left with field goals, special teams, and defense for our scoring. And a ton of opposing defenses loading up the box and daring our QBs to beat them. Because they cant. [/rant]

So it looks like McGowan is going to be out starting strong safety this year. They compared him to a 5th linebacker. That's fine but how is he in coverage? Didn't Mikey B. used to be the strong safety with D. Manning at FS? What's with all this safety juggling?

Our bread and butter Cover 2 looked like our weakness last night. The safeties weren't in position every time it seemed.

Adrian Peterson looked good.
Daniel Manning looked good as a returner, better than Earl.
Grossman/Orton were about equal, had they're up/downs
Wolfe/Forte looked real solid, lets see if they can keep it up.
it felt warming to see that our receivers looked average the best hah
our defense was horrible to begin with, but they pulled it together as the game went on, up until that last drive; learn from the mistakes.
it was sad seeing RMj out there in the later 3rd/4th hah

I thought the O-line played very well collectively
The D will be fine
Im thinking Chad Pennington----(he is the positive attribute version of OrtGross)

Bazuin looked solid---he actuall looked like a good young DE and was a force

Adams has wheels and complements Tommie
I believe AB will be our best DE this year---he looked fantastic

Mckie may have some competition from Polite

Mcbride looked awful------i was calling for Manning Jr
McGowan hits like a dam truck-----I dont trust him against the pass yet, but ill take that hitting to play MBrown at FS (where he is best)

Wolfe is dramatically better at running b/w the tackles

I know it's only the 1st preseason game, but this is going to be a bad football team. No ability to run and no ability to throw equals last place. I'm so sick of watching the same inept offense.

Caleb Hanie looked good even if it was against 3rd stringers. Made some really nice throws

I'm trying not to get too excited because Orton looked like Dan Marino in that HOF game a couple of years ago.

I hate to be excited about backups, but you know. Maybe if the franchise secured a QB we wouldn't always be clamoring for the backup to come along and hopefully do something.

Also agree with the above poster that we are going to be pretty damn bad. Forte, Beekman, Williams, Hester, and Greg Olsen(Since of late T'sE on our team are the best receivers) give me hope, but that's still not enough to turn this team around. We'll be a 5 or 6 win team at best IMO. We still need to solidify the O-line, more than likely a new QB, and behind that we need a WR that actually scares people. Hester as of now, nothing more than a vertical threat, Booker and Lloyd strike fear into the heart's of no one. Everybody else is unproven and probably will be nothing more than average.

I will take Olsen as first receiver over 50 yards and if we start Orten that will be in game 10 after the beard gets bigger.

Anyway, I'm weary of Tebow. As a QB passing in the spread offense, would you trust this guy as a pure pocket passer in the NFL? He isn't going to be exactly surprising secondaries in the NFL with his Speed. What else can he do, if he's unproven as a pocket passer, and he won't be running over everybody in the NFL(Though he'll be able to scramble more often than other QB's).

Nice person Tebow is though.

I'd hope for Matt Stafford or if he leaves Sam Bradford.
