http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/08/ ... -the-year/CHRIS WILLIAMS OUT FOR THE YEAR?
Posted by Mike Florio on August 7, 2008, 8:12 p.m. UTC
We’re hearing rumblings from reliable sources that Bears rookie offensive tackle Chris Williams, the No. 14 overall pick in the 2008 draft, is expected to miss the entire season with a back injury.
Multiple teams were concerned about Williams’ health prior to the draft. Some were sufficiently concerned to take him off the board.
As we hear it, Williams has aggravated a prior back injury, and most likely will be shut down. This development, if indeed accurate, will throw a mediocre Bears offensive line into disarray, and will put even more pressure on the team’s defense to save the day, each and every Sunday.
Williams was one of seven offensive tackles selected among the first 21 picks of the draft.
If this is true might as well kiss the offense good bye. I'm talking league worst.

It just makes the Bears look like the didn't do their homework. The red flags were there. Couldn't make it through the first practice.

I feel really really bad for our RBs and kind of bad for our QBs

But then we'd still suck at WR and QB.
That really sucks. Out for the year? Ouch.

I have no idea if this source is credible or not but if this is true I'll be extremely dissapointed. For some reason I felt like they were hiding something and then, bam, during the first preseason game we find out he had surgery that day.

To be fair, Brendan Albert has been out extensively and will miss a lot of the preseason for Kansas City so it's not like there were better choices.

Well, this season is already off to a splendid start, wouldn't you say?

A team spokesman said the injury was not a pre-existing condition but a new problem that occurred in the first hour of the team's second practice of training camp, their first in pads.
That news was met with skepticism by at least three scouts among the 21 in attendance at the game who claimed their teams had taken the player off their draft board because of medical concerns.
''I heard that on the radio,'' one scout said. ''Why are they lying about it? You know it will all come out.''
lol..

The Bears declined to give a timetable for Williams’ return, but indicated that they plan to keep the Vanderbilt product on the 53-man roster once the regular season begins.
One can hope.

Unfortunately he has to deal with a crappy line that takes away some of his productivity.

The O-lines that played last night looked good.......................young, atheletic, and rejuevenated
Angelo will get a replacement or maybe he knows we have a couple young guys that are capable of getting it done
There was very good pass protection and plenty of room to run
I think Brown (who I love) and Miller(hate) leaving is gonna be huge
And Tait playing the right side

I've got to agree with SLCceltic....for as much as we're b*tching about losing Williams, the o-line did look good last night. That being said, we're going to need to fortify the OT position somehow...

Williams' possible return to Bears? Novemberhttp://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com ... 1087.storyIf you're Bears rookie left tackle Chris Williams, you have Nov. 2 circled on your calendar.
That date against the Detroit Lions in Week 9 of the NFL season looks like the earliest Williams will be able to contribute after he underwent surgery Wednesday night to repair a herniated disc.
Williams was told following the procedure that he should expect to be out 10 to 12 weeks, a source said Friday. The Bears are idle Oct. 26 -- just before the 12-week mark -- before beginning the second half of the season at home against the Lions.
Even if Williams were to return at the midseason point, it would be difficult for the Bears to expect too much from the player they had planned on being in the starting lineup from Day One.

Showcase Bazuin the next couple pre-games and move him for an equal O-lineman
we have three outstanding DEs and im sure Baldwin would handle the scraps that Bazuin would get behind those three
Im only worried about the QB situation
Angelo can get something done in a deal if necassary for the O-Line, but the QB is still a major, major concern
Did we even make a play for Pennington------he's smart like Orton and no mistakes, and his ability to manage and take his shots most appropriately are what we need
Jim Milleresque----not as physically imposing as Miller, but would be a nice upgrade over what we have IMO
Im rooting for Hanie, but have a feeling he'll show flashes, but will not be the answer to start
That said, Hanie could be a solid backup in this League; he is a winner
Maybe carry us a couple games if injuries come up-----I believe it was Steve Fuller that kept us almost perfect when McMahon was out

Not sure why anyone would want Bazuin. He was a reach where he was taken at the time, he was injured all of last year so he's proven nothing, and in watching him vs the Chiefs his pass rush "moves" were non-existent - a lot of him trying to go around the OT who just let him take the long route to the QB.
Besides that, you rarely see player for player trades in the NFL.

I watched the game again last night and he plays a lot like ABrown
He never stops and makes lots of tackles in pursuit away from his side
you are right, he is not a pass rush specialist, but he makes plays---has a great motor
He must have been banged up bad last year in preseason-----he looked hideously awful
I know its unlikely that trades for young prospects straight up happen, but solid DEs and WRs are our deepest positions-----so id look at that first
Then I would look to trade a future pick like we did for Archueleta and Walker---2 bad examples of impact players for us I know, but im making a point
