Bears vs 49ers Thursday 7:00 FOX

Nationally televised game... I missed most of the first two games, hopefully I'll get to see this one.

David Haugh's article put it best for me today.

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com ... 443.column

This team is really at an impasse. They need to really put up a good performance on both sides of the ball (1st stringers mainly). Otherwise, we as fans may not even watch this team this season because iIt could turn super ugly. I for one, am beginning to question the abilities of Lovie Smith as Head Coach (among the rest of his constituents). This season has to go well, otherwise, I believe we could see another regime change after December of 2008. And I don't think it will stop with the just coaching staff, I think I could see a lot of fav. vets be gone too.

Would be nice to see a pulse in this game.

I agree with NLK that another mediocre performance will make it so the casual fans will tune out the Bears this year. I personally have to watch the Bears win or lose but I imagine I'd watch more games via DVR instead of live if they're just going to stink it up this year. Makes the pain go by more quickly. Amazing how fast a game can go when you fly by the commercials, half-time, and huddle.

The Bears offense will look good in this game. Now that a starter has been named, look for the offense to appear poised and settled. :D

I'm glad the game is televised nationally, this way I'll be able to watch it up here in Milwaukee. Was up north fishing for the last week and from the sounds of it the 5 fish I caught could probably block better than the offensive line, and the minnows I used as bait could probably coach better than Lovie. But this is the game to determine what that Bears have going into the season. Everything is set, no major injuries to speak of, there are no excuses...at least any that I'll believe because you know Lovie will have a bunch of them if the O sucks again.

What I want to see. I want to see some better blocking up front. I want to see Forte pick up some blocks and more importantly bust at least one run that will make me believe in him...I still don't like him. I want to see a WR step up and show me that he can be a reliable go-to-guy for Orton. I want to see Bennett actually catch a pass. I also want to see Dusty cause a little disruption in the back field.

I know this is a lot to ask of the Bears...even though it shouldn't be.

I consider myself probably the biggest non-native Chicagoan homer, probably the world has ever seen...But you beat me right there, thinking Orton is going to spearhead this offense down field for scores. Truthfully, if I were Lovie, I'd put some of the Defensive players on Offense, in particular the offensive line! Hey, can we use Dan Bazuin as one of the offensive linemen????

I hope for everyone's sake they put out a performance to give us some kind of hope and a reason to watch them this season. I'm definitely sticking to my prognostication that if this team does worse than last year, we can say good bye to Lovie, Urlacher, and few others.
BTW, FWIW, David Haugh said last week this Bears team looks like a 5-11 team (on a Monday following the loss to the K.C. Chefs).

Whose bright idea was it to put a Bears/49ers preseason game on National TV?

I'm actually glad this game is nationally televised. It'll be hard for us BEARS fans, but this team, if its unprepared, deserves to get scrutinized! If they're ready and good as they think they are, this is the stage to prove it!

Orton begins to brush the haters off but it wont be that easy Kyle we need 3 more before they even consider discussing it.
