Postgame thoughts: 49ers @ Bears

More completely random hits:
- First the good news. We just *may* have found our QB. While he's got a bad case of the happy feet, Orton looked poised and didn't turn the ball over while developing a rapport with R Davis. 10 for 17 for 142yrd and 2TDs. Neckbeard needs to send a fruit basket to Nate Clements.
- We're awfully good at blocking kicks and punts, aren't we?
- Dusty Dvoracek....come on down! You were missed. He was a stud during that goal-line stand in stuffing a run and coming up with a sack. STAY THE EFF HEALTHY NOW.
- Tillman has missed a ton of time in camp due to "personal reasons" and the lack of practice has seemed to carry over to the games. He needs to get his head turned around in coverage.
- Wolfe can just go away. Aside from his nifty little TD against 3rd stringers earlier this preseason, he's shown nothing. D Manning has shown to be the better backup kick returner (though both fumbled in this game) and Kevin Jones and even PJ friggin' Pope look more capable backing up Forte.
- Speaking of Kevin Jones, he looked slow to me to be sure but he's elusive and can break tackles.
- Lose the WR screen to Hester. Now. Teams get off the bus looking for that.
- And, Hester, no more over the shoulder catches of punts at the goal line. It's just not smart...even with your skill-set.
- I like that #39 Polite. He hurts people that try to tackle him and hurts people on special teams. I hope he makes the cut.
- Grossman. Good job killing the QB controversy.
- Y'know... in Bradley's rookie year what I liked about him is that he was the only WR we had that could do something meaningful after the catch. He had moves. He wasn't satisfied with just making the catch - he wanted more. The injuries must have caught up with him - I saw a couple of catches last night where he just couldn't do anything afterward. Stumbled on one and slipped on the other.
- JT O'Sullivan 7 for 8 for 126 and a TD. Gore 8 runs for 51 yds. And they played VERY sparingly. They both absolutely carved up our first string defense. Just embarrassing. Then their 2nd string offense comes in and makes our 1st string D look brutal. THIS is not a good sign coming off a bad year. If you thought the return of Mike Brown and Nathan Vasher was going to automatically turn things around, it looks like you were wrong.
- Hey, Robbie Gould....that was your 2nd kickoff out of bounds and 2nd missed FG from under 50yds in the last 2 weeks. Anytime you want to start earning that fat new contract.....
- Interesting that Aikman commented that Lovie thought Bazuin wasn't where he was supposed to be and was generally disappointed with his performance. I had not heard that. Further evidence that Ervin Baldwin might beat him out.
- I'm sorry but Urlacher was a big reason our D looked bad last night. I saw him whiff on a Gore tackle and totally miss the coverage on a Gore screen. I hope this isn't the season he starts to show his age.
- #68 Anthony Oakley is going to get his QB and RB killed. Would be surprised if he makes the team after seeing him stink it up last night.
- Safe to say now Rashied Davis is going to be one of the starting WRs. Call me greedy but he should have had 3 TDs. Dropped an easy one.
- Hey, Joe Buck, Forte is our 2nd round pick, not our 1st. Guess it's your preseason, too.
- In conclusion, 49ers getting over 400 yards against our defense took away any shiny, happy feelings I had about our offense showing up.
And that's all I have to say about that.
