We cut Bazuin and Okwo today, our 2nd and 3rd rd picks in 2007 - nice !
If you've read my quick hits, I've got to say I've seen both cuts coming. Baldwin has outperformed Bazuin (though HE'S no lock to make it through Saturday's deadline either) and Okwo's been hurt and outplayed by other linebackers (Roach, J Williams, McClover) that excel on special teams.
Hass and Polite also didn't make the cut. Was hoping Polite would make it as he looks to be a punishing FB that can contribute on special teams. Hass needs to look elsewhere - sure hands aren't wanted here.
More cuts coming.....

Not much pisses me off when it comes to the Bears, but cutting your 2nd & 3rd round picks really did it for me. Especially because they were on DEFENSE! We are going to feel this in about 3 years big time. Could have drafted 2 O-linemen - which is what I actually wanted at the time.

Well, I'd be more pissed if we kept high draft picks on the team that didn't belong talent-wise but only stuck around because of where they were selected. That being said, to blow it with such high draft choices is just embarrassing.
Just assume Angelo also would have screwed up the OL picks had we gone that route last year and you'll feel better, emperor.

This just goes to show you just how bad of a GM Jerry Angelo is. In 7 years Angelo has drafted 4 1st round picks that are currently on the team. And that includes Grossman and Williams...both not starting.
And I can forgive a GM for drafting a QB in the 1st round that is a bust...it happens all the time. But to stick with him for this long is unforgivable...especially without making an effort to better yourself at the position.

I'm Ok with JA because his overall drafting has been very good. Just the first round has been rough. We do have TH and a number of studs from lower rounds.

Jeez, I thought Rideau and Baldwin might make it. I have to believe Baldwin will make the practice squad if he isn't nabbed by another team.

Bears establish 53-man roster by cutting 21 players
By Larry Mayer
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Bears on Saturday terminated the contract of vested veteran fullback Lousaka Polite and waived 20 players to reach the NFL’s mandatory 53-man roster limit.
There were few if any surprises among the cuts, which included wide receiver Brandon Rideau and two 2007 first-day draft picks in second-round defensive end Dan Bazuin and third-round linebacker Michael Okwo.
The Bears also waived offensive linemen Anthony Oakley and Tyler Reed, wide receiver Mike Hass, tight end Fontel Mines, safety Leonard Peters, running back P.J. Pope, long-snapper Thomas Gafford and nine rookies in punter Zacrey Atterberry, defensive end Ervin Baldwin, tackle Cody Balogh, cornerback Trey Brown, defensive ends Joe Clermond and Nick Osborn, linebacker Joey LaRocque, guard Ryan Poles and tight end Marcus Stone.
Quarterback Caleb Hanie is one of nine rookies to make the Bears' 53-man roster following final cuts.
A 10th rookie, guard Chester Adams, was waived/injured after hurting his knee on the last play of the first half in Thursday night's preseason finale in Cleveland.
None of the 21 players who were let go Saturday ever started a game for the Bears. The only two who had even appeared in a regular-season contest were Polite (five games) and Oakley (three).
In establishing their 53-man roster, the Bears kept undrafted rookie Caleb Hanie as their third quarterback while also retaining four running backs and six wide receivers.
With rookie first-round draft pick Chris Williams sidelined indefinitely following back surgery, the Bears will head into the season with only seven healthy offensive linemen.
While all seven rookies the Bears selected in the first five rounds of the draft made the final roster, tackle Kirk Barton was the only one of five seventh-round choices to stick.
The Bears can establish an eight-man practice squad on Sunday and also could claim players who’ve been waived by other NFL teams. In past seasons, the Bears have typically stocked their practice squad with players they released a day earlier during final cuts.
Here’s a breakdown of the 53-man roster as it stands now (in alphabetical order):
Quarterbacks (3): Rex Grossman, Caleb Hanie, Kyle Orton
Running backs (4): Matt Forte, Kevin Jones, Adrian Peterson, Garrett Wolfe
Fullbacks (1): Jason McKie
Wide receivers (6): Earl Bennett, Marty Booker, Mark Bradley, Rashied Davis, Devin Hester, Brandon Lloyd
Tight ends (3): Desmond Clark, Kellen Davis, Greg Olsen
Offensive linemen (8): Kirk Barton, Josh Beekman, Roberto Garza, Olin Kreutz, Terrence Metcalf, John St. Clair, John Tait, Chris Williams
Defensive linemen (9): Anthony Adams, Mark Anderson, Alex Brown, Dusty Dvoracek, Tommie Harris, Marcus Harrison, Israel Idonije, Adewale Ogunleye, Matt Toeaina
Linebackers (6): Lance Briggs, Hunter Hillenmeyer, Darrell McClover, Nick Roach, Brian Urlacher, Jamar Williams
Cornerbacks (5): Zackary Bowman, Corey Graham, Trumaine McBride, Charles Tillman, Nate Vasher
Safeties (5): Mike Brown, Danieal Manning, Brandon McGowan, Kevin Payne, Craig Steltz
Specialists (3): Robbie Gould, Patrick Mannelly, Brad Maynard

This doesn't add up so I can only assume something's going to happen on the waiver wire or trade front. 7 healthy offensive linemen and 9 (!) defensive linemen when you start 4 on the DL and 5 on the OL ??? I've got to imagine Toeaina will be toast once we figure out how we're going to fill the offensive line. This shouldn't be the 53-man roster come opening day.

Surprised Garrett Wolfe got a spot. That guy has shown me nothing so far in a Bears uniform.
Looking over the roster, the safety position does not look to be improved one iota from last year's abysmal showing.
On the upside.....uhhh....on the upside.....

As are WR Brandon Rideau, OG Tyler Reed, OT Cody Balogh, and FB Jason Davis from the Eagles. That leaves one spot left.
