Orton out a month

Post#1 » by SportsWorld » Mon Nov 3, 2008 1:06 am

The "good Rex, bad Rex" debate returns to Chicago.

Bears quarterback Kyle Orton was taken from the field on a cart late in the second quarter Sunday, and a source told ESPN's Michael Smith that a high ankle sprain will sideline him at least a month.

Rex Grossman started the second half for Chicago and led the Bears to a 27-23 come-from-behind win over the Detroit Lions.

The good news is Kyle will be back later this year. The bad news is we have to play Tennessee next week and Green Bay the following week. Hopefully Kyle recovers quickly.

I'm hoping Kyle recovers quicker than what their prognosis is so far. We'll need some smart QB play vs. these next 4 games. These 4 games decide whether the BEARS make the playoffs or not. If they can go 2-2, We'll be in pretty good shape, as the last 4 of the games look very winnable.

I think I'm going to be sick.

It will be interesting to see if Forte is up to the challenge as I sincerely doubt Grossman is going to have the freedom Orton did. He's simply not as good a decision maker.

This season has been so sh^++y because we keep shifting back in forth from a playoff team to a tank for a draft pick team. We are all finally content and believe in the playoffs then we find out Orton is gonna miss the toughest part of our schedule. Lets hope Rex can take care of business.

This is obviously Chewie's doing :evil: but.....

I would be more worried if we didn't have Forte.

Now our game plan will be

1. Establish the run
2. Run the ball
3. Play-action to Hester deep twice a game (Rex is addicted to the deep ball).

We need to go 5-3 to get to the playoffs, IMO.

This will be tough. Our defense HAS to step it up. And Grossman... please, oh please don't suck.

I personally blame the lack of a Jennifer Love-Hewitt pic on the game thread for Orton's injury.

You're clearly going to lose the Aaron Gray sig bet, emperor, but you've got a shot at the bigger avatar bet. You need 5 more wins with this schedule (and keep in mind Sexy Rexy will be your QB for at least the first 4) :

TEN
@GB
@STL
@MIN
JAX
NO
GB
@HOU

Could come down to the wire.

Looking at that schedule, we might be in better shape then I thought..

Green Bay can be run on.. St. Louis can be run on and generally sucks on D, hopefully the Vikings will be without the Williams bros so they can be run on...

And I'll bet every team on that schedule is saying "Hey, we get the Grossman Bears! There's a win!"

What is your bet? Bears Wins + Gray Starts has to be < 10? I'd say there's a pretty good chance that Gray gets a couple starts sometime this year just with VDN tinkering around for no reason or someone getting hurt. I mean Thabo Sefolosha is starting now and he's horrible.

The avatar bet is emperor says the Bears will win at least 10 games this year.

The sig bet is emperor believes Aaron Gray will be the Bulls' starting center by 12/31/08. We're talking regular starting center here, Doug. No spot starts! I was clear on this!

As much as I love the Bears, I really, really don't want to lose the avatar bet as I've seen what emperor has been looking at and it's not pretty.

And Michael Redd goes down with one, too. Oye, me and the teams I'm a fan of. When they win, they break.

It certainly is not.

I see the Bears splitting with the Packers, and beating the Vikings without their 2 stud tackles. After that I think we get a win against St Louis.

The end of the season we will be playing for a playoff spot so I say we beat the Texans.

So in my book we need a one more win in games between the Jaguars, Saints & Titans. I think we get at least two wins out of that group with the two warm weather teams (Saints & Jaguars) visiting Chicago in December. And, I for one think the Titans are waaaay overrated. :o They have only played one team with a winning record, their opponents total record is 25-41 and played 5 of their 1st 8 games at home.

Not sure how reliable this is, but some guy named Stephen posted this on Chicagotribune.com:

He'll be back for the Packer game in 2 weeks.

I have a reliable source that told me Kyle was a little swollen this morning, but was able to jog and perform a 5 step drop with minimal discomfort.

They'll let him rest this week, and he should be close to 100% next week.

http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribu ... h-wai.html

I think that we have a chance to beat the Titans just because their offense is so reliant on the run and our run defense is good.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Orton jog and perform a 5 step drop with minimal discomfort. I guess it's not too serious. :wink:

Well, InsideInfo gives reliable information about the Bulls...there's a possibility that this guy is like InsideInfo.

I wouldn't be surprised. If Orton can come back against the Packers, its to the bears advantage to keep quiet as long as possible and make the Packers game plan for both Rex & Kyle.
