Cromartie? Tillman to Safety?

Post#1 » by Cliff Levingston » Wed Mar 4, 2009 4:48 pm

No rumors or anything like that, rather just a place to talk about the merits of such a move. Per the wiretap, the Chargers would like to trade Antonio Cromartie and sign Drayton Florence to replace him. How bout the Bears try to trade for him and thus solve the free safety problem in house by moving Tillman to safety? There's been talk here and there for a long time about moving Tillman there, and in cover 2, ICLO, Tillman would be best utilized there for his cover skills and leadership.

If we could get Cromartie for a 3rd rounder, ICLO, it'd be a no brainer. Then we could spend our 1st and 2nd rounders on OL and WR.

Adding Cromartie would be great as he's one of the top CB's in the league but I don't think they plan on moving Tillman to safety and I thought I heard one of Lovie/JA scoff at the idea of doing so on the radio a few weeks back. I don't really know why.

We've been fairly adamant in saying Tillman's not moving so I'd be really surprised if the Bears were in on Cromartie. What's funny is I read the comments under the San Diego paper article and they're just vicious on Cromartie. Granted he had an off year but I didn't expect that...

I'd like the move if Vasher could come back to his pre big contract/injury self. I wouldn't trade for anyone though.

Lovie hates your idea Cliff. ILO (In Lovie's Opinion):
“[Tillman] is our No. 1 corner and we’re going to move him to free safety? Who came up with that?..."I don’t know where that came from,"

Hmmm.

If Smith really wants to know, blame Cliff.

Cromartie was the worst CB in football last year.

He is no where near a top CB in football.

He may get traded, because he's not good enough to start.

Maybe I was thinking two years ago he was a top tier CB but maybe I was wrong. Rodgers-Cromartie/Cromartie got mixed up on last year. My apologies

No - you're on the money. Cromartie has been good in the past - I think he's blaming a hip injury on his bad season last year.
