TO Cut In Dallas...Should The Bears... (Poll added)

Terrell Owens' stay in Dallas is over. The Cowboys cut the wide receiver Wednesday night, reports ESPN.com's Michael Smith. T.O. spent three seasons in Big D.

I am not saying hey lets break the bank to get him, but I do think he is the best WR on the market and he could give the Bears a very good WR. If the price is right, I think he makes sense.

I'm really happy about this. No the Bears should not, but maybe someone else that may have taken a receiver early might now take TO??? That helps the Bears in the draft if it happens.

I expect Baltimore, Tennessee, Miami, and Indianapolis to look at him.

Though I think the click might actually come after Angelo introduces himself.

There's a recent Trib article that's so appropriate and it's titled "If you're a good player, don't call the Bears, they're not calling you."

Again, a team that is supposedly "close" should be all over guys like T.O., Dawkins, and Housh to put them over the top. We all know this team isn't close.

I can't even imagine how happy I'd be if the Bears somehow landed TO. TO's one of my favorite players in the NFL.

yes he sounds appealing cause he is a marquee WR ( i have to admit, i was intrigued when we picked him up) but the guy is like a virus on a team. the bears have enough problems. they dont need this virus.
if romo couldnt make him happy, what makes you think orton will?

He already refused to play for Baltimore once (that's how he ended up in Philly). No way the Tuna works with him again in Miami - remember that press conference?

Indy is interesting but they seem a little low key for his drama (especially in that town).

I say - the Jets or the Giants

His drama would be good for the Bears. The press could stop talking to Lovie every day and this team could probably benefit from a lockeroom cancer. :lol:

How long would it be before TO was having a press conference crying because Olin Kruetz beat his ass?

EDIT: Actually I forgot Brett Favreheheh retired. He won't go to the Jets.

Kind of a moot signing with the Bears QB rotation, no?

Though, you don't find that kind of offensive talent easily. Sign him, wait a year and see how it goes and cut him if it doesn't work out. The NFL has unguarenteed contracts, right?

OK I absolutely hate TO. But....you have to go after him. He is a great receiver. You have a 2 year window with him before he wears out his welcome. Whats the worst that going to happen with him? You not make the playoffs because he melts down? They are a fringe playoff team as it is now. So I don't see much harm in taking a chance.

After thinking this over, I am coming around to the idea of signing him to a 3 year deal (cutting him after 2 if needed) and drafting a WR in the 1st round. Our receiving core would go from our weakness to a position of strength in two moves. Draft an Right OT in round 2 and we look pretty good. TO really can't disrupt much here because there isn't much to disrupt. If he demands the ball, he'd be the only one doing so. Give it too him til he drops.

Jeez - I'm dead set against signing TO but it's such an un-Bears like thing to do it's probably not worth even discussing. He's such a drama queen and locker room cancer. Who needs that? Let's just shoot for a WR in either Rd1 or 2.

As I was watching and listening to the TO network last night, I said, hey, I bet someone will make a TO to the Bears thread.

I highly doubt the Bears will pick him up, if they do, I'll add the obvious reasons why it would be a terrible idea.

People who don't learn from history are deemed to repeat it. Jerry Jones learned some painful lessons. Well, hopefully he learned.

I added a poll.

And I am all for going after T.O. So what if he is a cancer? What do we have to lose? If we don't end up with him we're not going to the playoffs anyways. And I do not want Devin Hester to be our #1 wide receiver nor do I want a rookie to be our #1 unless it's Crabtree. I don't understand why people are so against T.O coming to the Bears. And I'm not even a big T.O. fan. This makes too much sense.

A team with Kyle Orton as the QB, with Ron Turner as the OC, with a philosophy of "getting off the bus running the football" does not go after T.O. - a guy who demands the ball and will have a hissy fit if he doesn't get his required catches per game. There's a reason ESPN is reporting the Raiders are the only team that are interested at this point.

I know how desperate we are for a WR but even I'm not THAT desperate for that self-serving attention whore. Let him be someone else's problem.

Couldn't agree more. Wanting T.O. is like wanting cancer. Keep him as far away from this team as possible. Cliff Levingston would much rather grab one of DHB, Maclin or Nicks in the first round than go after TO.
