Colts Working Out Sanchez Privately. Bears? Not So Much.

Post#1 » by Chewie » Sat Mar 7, 2009 1:48 am

Just read that the Jets and Colts are scheduled private workouts for QB Mark Sanchez prior to the 4/1 USC pro day workout he has scheduled. I love it that the Colts...THE COLTS...are working out Sanchez privately. Ya think they give a crap about hurting Peyton Manning's feelings? Hell no - it's a business and they're looking to cover themselves in case Sanchez slips considering Manning's about to turn 33 and had some health issues for the first time last year.

In Manning, we're talking about a QB, though, that has had 11 seasons in a row of starting all 16 regular season games. And the Colts are still focusing on the position. Meanwhile, we've got a QB that hasn't been able to put a single full season under his belt and we're not exactly leaving no stone unturned looking to improve the position despite Angelo stated he's "fixated" on our QB situation. We wouldn't want Kyle to be distracted with competition or take away some of his reps, would we? I mean, we need to worry about Kyle first and the organization second, right? Let's forget Orton said this only two weeks ago : "I'm getting healthy and I'm starting to really feel good, these last couple of weeks especially." HE'S STILL NOT EVEN 100% !

This is some hell of an offseason.

I hear you Chewie,

I do not understand this newfound confidence in Angelo about Orton as the starter.

We need to get beyond being satisfied with a game manager, when we could use a game changer.
A plea for post scoring is a plausible Bulls plan, but plainly isn't a priority. In response to a post player's dismay about his lack of points in the paint, Paxson said.... "I'm not nearly as concerned about the offensive stuff as he is."

And not to sound like a broken record but drafting Sanchez (or Stafford) would still give Orton a year to prove he can be a game changer. If he's not....we've got insurance.

We'd have to trade up to get either and well there's a better chance that AIG will be named Company of the Year than that happening. Personally I think the Bears have a 1 year wait & see policy going on (emperor=forever the optimist). We will have money to spend next summer to fix problems and if....oh hell...I have no clue.

I still like the Bears and root for them each game but I hate the way the team is run. But I'm pretty sure most Bears fans feel the same way.

Stranger things have happened than a good QB sliding to the middle of the 1st round. We need to give Sanchez the due diligence treatment. And if he absolutely wows in a private workout - why not move up and pull the trigger if you're talking about a few spots? Someone you deem to be a franchise QB should be worth that. BUT we are talking about Angelo here....he doesn't have the balls to move up and he doesn't identify QB talent. Bad combo.

Just bc they're working him out doesn't mean they are going to take him. I don't understand why we wouldn't be looking at both these guys especially with JA saying QB was one of the things he wanted to look at the most this offseason and I hope bringing in Brett B. wasn't what he had in mind.

I don't see all the hype for Mark Sanchez, really don't. But I'm probably wrong.

You know, I dont' necessarily think it's 'Sanchez' that's being talked about in these posts. I think it's that there might be a potential franchise QB that could be had and the Bears aren't even willing to take a look. Especially when you have franchises with a history of successful QB play that are willing to at least see what's out there. It's not really an endorsement of Sanchez as it's a knock on how stupid the decision makers of the Bears are.

The bears have seen Sanchez in school, on film and at the Combine. For all we know they may have already decided that they'll pick him if he drops to them. Maybe the Bears asked the Colts to scout him for them so they wouldn't raise suspicion and lose out :)
