Braylon Edwards to NY Giants?

Yahoo! - Braylon Edwards is expected to be traded to the New York Giants by the Cleveland Browns before the NFL draft on April 25-26, according to a pair of sources with knowledge of the negotiations.

“The Giants are going to have to up the offer a bit, but [the Browns] are willing to move him,” said one of two sources with knowledge of the talks between the teams.

The Browns reportedly asked for a second- and fifth-round pick and receiver Steve Smith, but the Giants declined. New York countered by offering the two draft picks and receiver Domenik Hixon for Edwards.

Neither the Browns or Giants could be reached for this story, but both sources said the gap will be bridged before the draft.

“The Giants are motivated, they’re trying to win right now,” the aforementioned quoted source said. “Edwards is a bigger guy that [quarterback] Eli [Manning] wants to throw to, like he had with Plaxico. The Giants know they can’t leave Eli with no great receivers. They saw what happened last year.”

2nd and a 5th plus a receiver. Considering we've got an extra 5th from the Broncos and will likely at least look at a receiver with our second anyway, would you pull the trigger on a deal like that? Cliff Levingston sure would.

Man i would definitely pull the trigger on that. But they would probably want a third piece in that trade which i'm not sure what it would be for the bears. How about a 2nd rd and two 5th rnd picks? The NY media and ESPN make me laugh because once this trade is done they'll be raving about how good the giants will be. I mean Manning is an average QB at best, i dont care if the Giants won the superbowl, his numbers still show he's average. I mean Edwards would definitely be an upgrade but i bet he would put up better numbers with Cutler than Manning.

Either Braylon was dogging it last year or he doesn't come as advertised. He's got the skills no doubt but he had easy drops galore - his 16 (!) easily led the league. In '07 he went off for 80/1,289/16. In '08 he dropped to 55/873/3.

Good luck figuring out which Braylon you're going to get in 2009, Giants.

Hopefully that's one less team picking before us that'll take WR in the draft. C'mon, Britt - SLIDE to papa !

i'd do a 2nd & 5th easy but we have no receiver to send back. how sad. Along Chewie's reasoning - it would be better for us if the Giants did this deal. They pick twice before us at #49 and would make it much more likely that either Nicks or Robiskie are there for us. I'd be even happier if Holt signs with Tenn or Jacksonville before the draft too - increasing our chances.

I'd do 2nd and two 5ths. If you think Steve Smith is worth a 5th or thereabouts, it makes sense.

Good points on both fronts. Maybe Braylon had a freak year in 2007, but given his talent, Cliff Levingston would have to think that last year will end up being more out of the norm for him.

And also, even if the Giants do end up getting him, that'll almost certainly mean that they won't be drafting a WR with their 1st, thus making some WR talent slip a little bit more.

What the hell? They can have 2nd, two 5ths, throw in Rashied Davis, Fontel Mines, god I donno. Whatever they want.

Biggs had a good point on his blog. Rashied Davis had all of 7 drops and we hate his guts. Imagine how this town would treat a guy with 16 - with a couple of those being of the 'game-losing' variety no less.

Go nuts, Giants.

Our 2nd and our 5th along with Davis would be worth it.

Braylon next to Hester and WITH A RUNNING GAME IN FORTE would be nasty with Cutler. Not to mention Olsen.

Braylon would be a guy that Cutler could grow with too.

I want a vet receiver.

I don't want Hester, a pick, and Bennett as our WR's.

Braylon Edwards in the NFL
05 10 games, 32 catches for 512 yards and 3 TD
06 16 games, 61 catches for 884 yards and 6 TD
07 16 games, 80 catches for 1289 yards and 16 TD
08 16 games, 55 catches for 873 yards and 3 TD

This is coming from a huge Michigan fan, Braylon coasts a lot (always has) and he can be the 07 receiver any time he wants to be. The question is will he be. I would rather have Holt+picks than Edwards to be honest.
