Wow, what a great morning for me sports wise.
First the Bears take a DE, which I wanted them to take, and he looks like he's going to be good.
In about an hour I'm going to eat brunch in the UC before watching the Bulls game, and I have 100 level tickets.

Given I wanted him in Rd2, I couldn't be more pleased even if it's not our biggest need. That tackles for loss stat really pops out. Somebody needs to pull the game footage clip from youtube - you'll like this guy.

Ohhh man, good for you NZB, wish I had that day.
I dont' know much about this guy, someone who does please let us know. What I wrote is just from draft profiles.
I like the ying and yang this guy gives us, paired with Mark Anderson. We have the 'every down' rusher in this guy(hopefully), then we have the pass rush specialist who can go outside, inside, and play coverage in Anderson.
At least, thats how I see it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwJrEOtk41Mhows this for athleticism. Love the pick, and with great vets like wale and brown plus a good coaching staff, we can hopefully mold him into a very good player.

Just posted this on the draft thread, should have posted here.
Scouts Inc on Gilbert - The nuber is on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being exceptional.
Overall Football Traits
Production 2 2004: Redshirts. 2005-2007: Starts in 25 of 36 games played and combines for 93 total tackles, including 20 TFL and 12 sacks in three seasons. 2008: Starts all 12 games and leads the nation in tackles for loss (22). Also notches 52 total tackles, including 9.5 sacks.
Height-Weight-Speed 1 Could stand to add bulk if he's going to play DT fulltime in the NFL, but possesses an enormous frame with exceptionally long arms and big hands. Also has outstanding straight-line speed for his size.
Durability 1 Has not missed any significant playing time due to injury.
Character 3 Father Darren played offensive tackle in the NFL. Knows what it takes to make it at the next level. Intelligent person with good off-the-field character. Not the most consistent worker, though.
Defensive Tackle specific Traits
Agility/Quickness 1 Possesses rare athleticism for his size. Is quick and fluid. Shows great agility and can change directions smoothly for size.
Strength/Toughness 4 Lacks good strength. Does not show a powerful upper body. Plays too high at times and does not show a solid base. Appears to lack ideal mental toughness. Motor runs hot and cold. Not a tough, physical player.
Instincts 2 He's obviously instinctive and shows good football intelligence. Frequently gets an early jump on the snap and does a fine job of sniffing out screens.
Pass Rusher 2 Has a lot of potential and was very productive in this facet of the game. He has a quick first step and good closing burst as a pass rusher. Can change directions once he gets through the line of scrimmage. Has long arms and good instincts to obstruct QB's view as a passer.
Run Stopper 3 Has the long frame and enormous reach of a 3-4 DE, but does not play with the discipline, toughness or strength it takes to succeed in that role. He's at his best when on the move and can make plays in pursuit. However, he struggles to anchor as a two-gap DT. He is not very tough mentally or physically. His effort is inconsistent and generally depends on early success in a given game.

I'd just like to hear Angelo comment on what position he sees Gilbert at in the long term.

My trust level for an Angelo 3rd round defensive pick is extremely high.
I'm glad we traded down for two more 3rd and 4th round picks.

He seems like a better version of Israel Idonije. Tall, athletic D Lineman who can play end or as pass rushing tackle.
He's a gift from JA and Lovie to Marinelli, like a welcome to the team present wrapped in a bow.
Go to work with him, Rod.

I can agree with that.
Looking at the tools he's got, he seems to have everything that a coach can't provide.

Angelo likes him better as a DT. Tommie Harris insurance.
And it's needed.

Angelo said he liked him more under tackle - saw his comment on Biggs' Sun-Times blog.
That's my opinion on the Harris insurance. The Bears publicly say he's healthy.

Found this on the Bears website ....
Bears general manager Jerry Angelo told the media that Gilbert can play both end and tackle, which will provide flexibility, he took a "quantum step" as a senior and boasts rare athleticism.

i LOVE this guy. LOVE LOVE LOVE him. He did an interview on ESPN and seemed like a real down to earth kid, and not to mention he can jump out of a pool. If Marinelli is really the coach he is, he'll turn this guy into an absolute STUD.

Are the Bears going to switch to a 3-4 defense now?

I think this pick is misunderstood.
The biggest knock on this guy is he can't move side to side very well, he's basically just a battering ram.
I'd assume with his size and with ^ being his biggest fault, he's more suited for a DT position. Scouts say he has a huge frame that isn't filled out yet, and the length of his arms, fingers, legs, are ridiculous. A kick blocker?
20 more pounds on this guy would put him in the 300 range and he probably won't lose much athleticism. Let's see if he has some chemistry with Tommie.
