well, you can't really tell your new franchise QB that his opinion won't matter with regards to who he throws to. Rideau might catch on somewhere someday, but he won't be the NFLs version of Bruce Bowen. He is a practice squad guy for a reason apparently.
Rod Hood, Bears took a shot in the dark. Now hes just shot. Young enough to still play, but something aint right with his head for the game anymore.
And with Davis and the shrimp running back, the Bears special teams ought to have some decent lil guys to run around fast. Lovie has a soft spot for Rashied anyway. Every coach has players like that.
What should be more interesting is the PUP list

The Bears have released 5th round pick Marcus Freeman, the LB from Ohio State. Looks like they will keep 6 LB's.

Add Freeman to the list
Cutting our fifth rounder doesn't look good to whomever made that decision.

I'm most surprised by Buenning, to tell you the truth.
Hopefully Freeman will be added to the PS.

Willing to bet Freeman makes the Practice squad. Just too many good linebackers on this team. I'm surprised Mcclover(haha...I wrote Mclover) got cut, we just brought him back.

McClover is an example of a special teams stud that just provides nothing at all on defense. He looked like a lost puppy dog last night (as did Freeman).

Bears inform G Johan Asiata that he will be released. He has a chance to return on the practice squad.

I think you've named the one guy on the team I've never ever heard of.

Bears are keeping 4 TE's surprisingly.
I'm guessing they may be prepping for Clark's retirement sooner than I thought, and they don't want to risk another team swiping Gaines off of their practice squad

Gaines isn't eligible for the practice squad given his previous playing time in the NFL.

Biggs reporting we're likely trying to trade Gaines given the demand for TEs.

I'm just really happy that it looks like Kellen Davis is going to make the team. Also, its pretty impressive to not have a 1st or 2nd round pick and still have 7 draft picks make the team including a 6th & 7th rounder.

http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribu ... backs.html Chicago Bears to keep 11 defensive backs
By Vaughn McClure
Players such as Craig Steltz and Trumaine McBride can take a breath now. They made it.
The Bears have decided to keep 11 defensive backs, according to a league source, as they continue to shave the roster to 53 by Saturday's deadline.
After giving veteran Rod Hood the boot after just a few days, the Bears will move forward with Charles Tillman, Nathan Vasher, Zack Bowman, Corey Graham, D.J. Moore and McBride as the cornerbacks. Tillman is expected to be lifted off the physically-unable-to-perform list following his recovery from back surgery. That move could happen soon. Bowman returned from a hamstring injury Thursday night and had an interception.
The safeties are Danieal Manning, Kevin Payne, Al Afalava, Craig Steltz and Josh Bullocks. Manning is likely to be the starting free safety with Afalava possibly getting the nod over Payne as the starter at strong. But the Bears will probably play a lot of nickel this season, meaning Manning will move down into the nickel role and allow Payne to come in at free safety.
Sticking with 11 defensive backs means the Bears also will cut Rudy Burgess, Marcus Hamilton, Woodny Turenne and Dahna Deleston. One of them is sure to land on the practice squad, likely Turenne.
Manning starting FS and Afalava starting over Payne?

Source says Bears will re-sign DE Ervin "G-Ball" Baldwin to the practice squad provided he clears waivers. KC tried 2 scoop him up last year

So it looks like:
QB
Cutler
Hanie
RB
Forte
Wolfe
Peterson
FB
McKie
WR
Hester
Bennett
Aromashodu
Davis
Knox
Iglesias
TE
Olsen
Clarke
Davis
Gaines
OT
Pace
Williams
Shaffer
OG
Omilaye
Garza
Beekman
Louis
C
Kreutz
DE
Ogunleye
Brown
Anderson
Melton
DT
Harris
Harrison
Adams
Idonije
Gilbert
MLB
Urlacher
Hillenmeyer
OLB
Tinoisamao
Briggs
Williams
Roach
CB
Tillman
Bowman
Vasher
Graham
Moore
McBride
S
Manning
Alafava
Payne
Bullocks
Steltz
ST
Maynard
Gould
Mannelly
Hmmm.. If we could find a taker for Gaines and a decent vet RB was available, I'd think you'd have to jump at the opportunity. Otherwise, nothing too unexpected. Biggest upset was probably Louis over Buenning.

http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2009/09 ... e_3_p.htmlThe Bears have made it official with a series of moves today to reach the 53-man roster limit before proceeding to the start of the 2009 season. The players will get back to work with practice Monday at Halas Hall. Here are the moves reported on the team's Web site:
CB Charles Tillman was promoted from the physically unable to perform list to the active roster
RB Kevin Jones was placed on inured reserve with a torn ligament in his left ankle
DE Henry Melton was placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury
S Dahna Deleston was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury
Melton's ankle injury was not believed to be serious and it could be a way to stash the fourth-round pick from Texas on the squad for a year. The problem is he cannot practice while on IR so the only work he can do is in the classroom and weight room. This marks the third time in four years the Bears have placed at least one draft pick on IR prior to the opening of the season. It could be concerns about depth on the interior of the line cost him a spot as the Bears kept tackle Matt Toeaina, who right now figures to be third in the rotation at nose tackle.
Here are the official cuts:
QB Brett Basanez
FB Jason Davis
FB Will Ta'ufo,ou
WR Eric Peterman
WR Brandon Rideau
G Johan Asiata
OT Cody Balogh
G Dan Buenning
C Donovan Raiola
DE Ervin Baldwin
DE Joe Clermond
LB Marcus Freeman
LB Kevin Malast
LB Darrell McClover
LB Mike Rivera
CB Rudy Burgess
CB Rod Hood
CB Marcus Hamilton
CB Woodny Turenne
Michael Gaines remains as a fourth tight end and an H-back capable of filling in at fullback if something happens to Jason McKie. The Bears are clearly concerned about depth on the defensive line and in the secondary where they went nearly all of training camp and preseason without their starting cornerbacks. They devoted nearly 38 percent of the roster to the line and defensive backfield.

Chicago Bears to release Brett Basanez, sign him to practice squadhttp://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribu ... squad.htmlThe Bears will start the season with two quarterbacks on the active roster after informing Brett Basanez of his release. Basanez expects to remain on the team's practice squad.
"I'm obviously disappointed not to be on the active roster,'' Basanez said. ``Chicago usually keeps three, and Ron (Turner) said it would only be two this year. But it's also promising because they obviously liked me enough to keep me around (on the practice squad). Plus I'm home. I'm still a part of the team.''
The Northwestern and St. Viator grad intends to sign his practice squad contract Sunday if he clears waivers.
"I'll still be the No. 3 guy, basically," Basanez said. "Because of injuries or whatever, they needed to keep more guys on defense. I understand that."
