Bears/Lions Postgame Thread

Really Good:
-Special Teams (Won us the football game)
-Lance Briggs, Alex Brown, Nick Roach, Adewale Ogunleye
Good:
-Matt Forte
-Robbie Gould
-Jay Cutler
Bad:
-Injuries (Adrian Peterson, Johnny Knox, Devin Hester, Zachary Bowman all hurt in this one)

Don't think it was the prettiest win in some ways(Despite the score). This was a very Bears like performance, where its the Defense and Special Teams that were doing well and the offense was quiet.
One thing I noted. The Lions defense is REALLY bad. We didn't put up as many offensive yards and do as well as we could, and we still ended up pulling away.
Oh yeah, Spinnin House was right. Stafford had a good day. That guy misses way too many open receivers though. He's gotta learn when to laser it in, and when to just put some air on the pass and complete it. He starts hitting those passes and the Lions will have a scary offense.
Bears winner. Now its time to rest up and get healthy.

We all hoped for dominance in this one. Other than special teams (they were AWESOME!) we didn't see it.
I give Cutler credit for no TOs. As this game developed, with the Bears having an incredible advantage in field position, TOs were the only way this one could be lost. He also moved the team well enough to answer the early Lions' TDs when the Bears' D was still hibernating.
Here's the thing. You can't win the division, much less a Super Bowl in October. You just want to win the winnable games. There are no style points given out. Today the Bears won a game they had to win and had it under control by the beginning of the 4th quarter. I'll take it.

Amen to that Transplant. 1 game at a time.
Bears scored 41 points with only 276 total yards of offense.
Go special teams!

Bowman was on MEGATRON for the majority of the game. In the start of the game the Bears were blitzing alot and making Bowman try and defend MEGATRON 1 on 1. I'm sorry but nobody in the freaking world is winning that match up.
Forte averaged over 10 yards a carry. He had 4 touches for 140 yards. That's a big day. What the hell do you want?
Cutler had another game with a passer rating over 100. There's no point in attacking downfield when your team is dominating and half of your receivers are out.

Cutler 3 TD's were great.
The big thing was that he(And the special teams) kept us in the game early when the Lions were coming out fiery

1) Calvin Johnson went for 140 yards in the 1st half. I don't care if he's Jerry Rice, no WR in the NFL should go for 140 yards in one half.
2) I want more consistency out of Forte. He did have 3 nice runs but he also had 9 rushes for like 18 yards to go with those runs. He definitely made an improvement over his first 3 games though. But the announcers were complaining about Forte's inconsistency as well so clearly I'm not the only one that thinks he played just an okay game.
3) Cutler was just okay. He didn't turn the ball over which was good but on some occasions, he held the ball too long and either fumbled the football or took an unnecessary sack. He was just okay.
The Bears played an okay game outside of the special teams which was fantastic. If we play like this against a team like the Falcons, we won't win. I'm happy to be 3-1 going into the bye week though. Getting wins is all we should care about right now.

you do realize that's how most rb's play. Hell look at AP's numbers if you don't believe me. If anything I put the blame on Turner for not having Forte do more sweeps, especially after he got that 30 yard gain.
As for Cutler, he was good. It's hard to get alot of yards when your ST gets you the ball at the 40 everytime. If anyone is to blame, again it's Turner, for playing FAR too conservative. In all honestly we should have had over 55.
Also Lovie made some bad calls early on defensively. I definitely agree with susan. Putting Bowman on one on one coverage against Megatron is beyond dumb. There are maybe 5 cbs in the entire league who can handle it, and while Bowman is fairly good, he's not nearly THAT good.

He's a freak. What do you want the Bears to do? They committed to stopping the run and you know what? They won the game because of it. He's the best athlete at the WR not named Randy Moss, really there is absolutely nothing Zach Bowman can do to stop him in 1 on 1 coverage.
I'm sorry, but when a player doesn't fumble the ball and has 14 touches for 140 yards, I refuse to think that he played just okay. That was a big time performance by Forte today in limited touches.
Cutler led the team right down the field and made an incredible play to get the first touchdown and from there on out he didn't need to be ultra aggressive. This was clearly his 3rd best game out of his 4 here and the team still put up 48 points.
If the Bears play like this against Atlanta they'll win. Forte was a play maker, the defense was lights out after the first two drives and the special teams was dominating.

I didn't realize that Knox didn't actually get into the end zone on that kickoff return. It looks like he dropped the ball before he got in (shades of DeSean Jackson from MNF last year). If the Lions would have challenged, we would have had it on the 1 yard line.

Very good news there. Hope we get everyone healthy for the Falcons game in 2 weeks.

I didn't see it live at all. That angle that they showed you can't really tell. But they blew it dead so even if they picked it up, it wouldn't be their football I think.

a few thoughts:
1. we won, which is really all the matters.
2. the special teams play was magnificent in every way -- punting/returning/field goal kicking/etc. they literally won this game.
3. Cutler did the job. He might not have played out of his mind like he did in week 2 and 3 but he got the job.
4. the defense looked bad. i feared every time stafford dropped back to pass. eventually our pass rush showed up as Ogunleye, Alex Brown, and Roach stepped up.
5. Forte was ineffective except for those two large runs. those two large runs were HUGE though. it's signs of life atleast. it's nice to have Forte get 100+ yards finally.
6. we're limping into the bye week with all of our LB's banged up and both Knox and Hester going down with injuries.
7. we're 3-1. what more can we ask for????

But seriously, I had the Bears at 2-2 at this point I think so I'm thrilled with the 3-1 start.
