Derrick Johnson to the Bears?

The NFL trade deadline is tomorrow and the Chicago Bears already got themselves a big trade when the team acquired defensive end Gaines Adams(notes) on Friday from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And now the team is trying to land a linebacker by tomorrow's deadline, according to the National Football Post.
The need apparently became even more apparent after yesterday's 21-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons when veteran linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa(notes) went down with a knee injury just after returning from three weeks of recuperating from injury.
The Bears have had a lot of injuries at linebacker this season, with both Hunter Hillenmeyer(notes) and Brian Urlacher(notes) also currently out.
A rumored target is Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumors/post ... nfl,196755I like the new Angelo, but we better not give up more than a 5th or a 4th round pick...

Ic says the price for Johnson is the same as it was for Gaines

I don't think so... Johnson has been in the league for 2 years longer and has had injury problems.

So, they're just gonna keep ignoring the offensive line?

I think it's easily fixable if we just sub in Beekman who was good last season and just blows my mind that we are still playing the turd over him.
More than anything, I think this means Pisa is done for the year.

THe thing is, Pisa has been GREAT when heathy, the problem is, for some reason, sudenly he cant stay on the field.
I would be more than willing to give up a 4th round pick in 2010, that could become a 3rd round pick if he plays over 70% of the games after the trade.
This guy has talent, and would surely help our LB core out for the future, I would even consider giving the Cheifs a 1st and a 3rd if it ment getting Dwane Bowe along with the trade, Although, it is highly unlikely.
I love the way this team is shaping up. I mean, look, we are expanding our window and though we are trading picks away, we are getting more proven and capable players in return. which is why I love the moves. I mean, sure, you may get some 22 year old prodogy, that can come out and start from day 1, but that doesnt happen, The players that are ready are too high to grab anyway, by trading for these 25-27 year old guys, who have a few years under them, it eliminates most of the growing prosess alowing you to be better now. and still having that time that they have to be good. we are expanding our window people, and I would love to see this move.

Ya, but regardless I love Derrick Johnson. He is used terribly in KC (he's a 4-3 LB that's in a 3-4 system). He'd be great for years to come with Briggs imo

Ya um I don't we have the picks to do that... Bowe is great, but unnecessary for this team. Especially with the aging OL, by 2011, that should hopefully be our 1st round pick. That or safety.

Agreed. Similar strategy by the Patriots. This team can really become an amazing team, especially defensively, within 3 moves, with the Gaines trade and potentially the Johnson trade.

You know, another option would be Glenn Dorsey, I think if you put him at NT, though he isnt your typical NT, he would be good enough against the run that with him a T Harris together, and a LB core of Briggs Urlacher and Johnson, your would not only be able to create penetration against the pass, the run game would be very dificult, I know, Im getting Madden here, but its just a though.
I would give up a 1st and a 4th in 2011 for both Dorsey and Johnson.
I am just amazed that we are talking about getting 1st round tallent from 2-4 years ago, that has done Not terrible ( such as Adams, he may not be fully developed, but he isnt bad, and now Johnson who may not have lived up to expectations, but is still a very good LB )
And all of this from a GM who makes ( used to ) very few moves, now, we are without our top 2 picks this next draft. though, I feel that we have gotten great value. Jay cutler and Gaines adam. would still do that any day of my life.

I wonder if we could trade a player instead of a draft pick. We'd have to cut someone anyways unless Pisa or someone else is going on the IR.
Can we interest the Chiefs in the left side of our OLine? (jk)

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumors/post ... nfl,197029 According to that the possibility of Dwayne Bowe getting traded isn't out of the question.
Cheifs are going for a rebuild. They just trade Tank Tyler for a draft pick.
I think Dwayne Bowe and Derrick Johnson would be a massive pick up. Still wish there were some players we could trade rather than draft picks, but Bowe and Johnson are better players than we would draft anyways.
Although this may sound like an unorthodox idea I would definably be happy if we made the following moves:
Trade a 1st Round Pick and 3rd Round Pick in 2011 for Dwayne Bowe and Derrick Johnson.
In FA sign LT Marcus McNiel and S Will Allen.

Well, we can stop all the trade talk, however, I am not sure if I mind not trading for him. I know it would help us now, but the fact is he is a FA next offseason anyway, we can just pick him up. That way we keep our picks as well, and as I hear it, Johnson has been benched so he should be let go.
