Report: Bears OC Turner could be 'fall guy'
FOX Sports' John Czarnecki reports that Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner could be "the fall guy" if GM Jerry Angelo shakes up the coaching staff after this season.
The Czar says there's "no way" Angelo would consider firing Lovie Smith. The Bears have been highly aggressive in terms of roster moves and would clearly be a disappointment if they don't make the playoffs. 4-3 Chicago ranks just 20th on offense, but 11th in defense (Smith's side of the ball). Nice. But Lovie deserves to be fired as well. Of course, this was before today's hilarious game.

Honestly, I have no idea what kind of job Ron Turner has been doing this season. The offensive line has been just so bad, so atrocious that the majority of the plays he calls never go anywhere because no one is blocking up front.

About five years late... but it's a start.

True enough, but there has been some questionable playcalls at times. On the second Bears drive of the game I believe (could have been third drive), what looked to be promising was utterly killed by calling a busted Devin Hester reverse. Has that play ever worked? No. And why call it from behind when it was obvious the game would have to be a shootout for the Bears to have a chance to win? A straight up draw play up the middle would have worked better than a high risk-high reward play like that. And what about some no huddle offense for the second half? Instead we get the Bears keeping the pace as though the score was tied or something.

You have to be a blind man to think that Turner is anywhere close to the biggest problem with this team. While Jerry is firing Turner, he should fire Lovie and himself. He and Lovie have developed this turd of a team and both of their heads should roll. It's absolutely unacceptable how they both maintained the status quo with the defense when it was clear just last year that the current group just didn't have it anymore. And yes, you can blame injuries to Urlacher and Pisa, but I really don't think they would have made much more of a difference.
It seems this season that when the scheme isn't failing, the talent is and when the talent is ready the scheme fails. Lovie took it upon himself to be the D coordinator because seemingly no one else was doing it 'right'. Well Lovie, great job there. You somehow found a way to help the defense become worse than when Bob Babich was calling the plays.
Words can't adequately express how much this team sucks. Top to bottom, left to right.

Lovie is not the biggest problem either. The biggest problem is that Angelo has failed to improve the talent level on this roster, while at some positions players have just sucked. Angelo failed to get a good WR, his OL signing hasn't worked, Forte is very average, Tommy Harris has his head up his ass, safeties and corners are not very good, and the linebacking has suffered without Urlacher. The team is just not very talented anymore, and that falls on the players and on Angelo. 4-4 at this point is probably a good indication of their talent level.

I consider Lovie an accomplice when it comes to Jerry's actions. Lovie has a voice in personnel and he's made some bad decisions (Pace,Archuleta, etc.) as well.

Lovie should be the fall guy. He took over this defense and it's as bad as I've ever seen it. Turner has his own issues and I would love to see him go as well but if it's a fall guy you're looking for, you're looking on the wrong side of the ball.

I actually like Lovie, but when the head coach comes out twice in one season and says the team was not prepared to play...The head coach has to go. The veterans are not motivated. Thats on the coach. Especially the defense which is his responsibility.
That said, I'd be happy with Turner being dismissed as I wouldnt have to see a wide reciever screen called on 3rd and 8 anymore.

He should've been fired when he was giving Rex Grossman 37 passing attempts per game.
