Based on comments in the article , in addition to coaching, it is inferred that the entire roster needs revamping, which could also presents a situation where he assumes GM duties also, hopefully if he is interested.

A 2 for 1 deal, which may be more plausible for the Bears to accept contract wise.

What are your thoughts on this bit of news and the possibilities.

Shanahan Would Be 'Extremely Interested' In Coaching Bears

25th December, 2009 - 8:23 am
ESPN - A source told ESPN.com that Mike Shanahan would be "extremely interested" in coaching the Bears if the job became available.

Shanahan is a native of Chicago and the Bears have yet to give coach Lovie Smith a vote of confidence in the wake of their disappointing season.

"The job is really attractive to Mike," a friend of Shanahan said. "It's home [with relatives of his, including his dad, in the Chicago area, and wife Peggy's family still in the Bloomington area]. It's a great challenge because that roster needs to be made over, and the one guy there to build the team around is the one guy he has already built a team around and with whom he has a tremendous comfort level, Jay Cutler."

Shanahan has been linked to the Redskins as well. [READ]

I'm not a fan of us running a 3-4 with the history of the Bears and what not/ I just don't think there are enough good ass tackles. If he did something like, trade all our picks for a shot at Suh, and then run the three-four? Maybe then.

Trade what picks? 3-7? We can dream.
I've never been a fan of his, but he does no offense and I'd much rather bring him in with a new DC than stick with what we have. Thatg said, I'd rather go for a younger guy that may bring fresh ideas. The next coach is gonna have two really bad years revamping this mess IMO, so we might as well try someone innovative like Chewie.

From what I read, the writers made it sound like he'd only be interested in the Bears because he wants the Redskins to drive up the money on his contract.

It would be nice to get him here though. Finally someone that wouldn't be afraid to not treat Cutler like Jesus.

Bring in Shannahan as the GM/Coach.

Hire Weiss as O Coordinator and bring back Rivera as the D Coordinator.

Eh? I'm busy trying to become a fan of hockey so I can enjoy a winner in this town.

Probably like 3-5, 1 - 3 next year which is impossible and highly unlikely.

So, uh, so much for that defense?

I wouldn't mind having an offensive minded coach but I really think we need to put a premium on defense. We are a defensive minded city.

The Washington Post reports that the Redskins will name Mike Shanahan their new head coach "in the next few days."
The Post also reports that Jim Zorn's firing will be made official "early this week." The Redskins have to satisfy the Rooney Rule again after firing Zorn, however, so they'll need to line up an interview with a minority head coaching "candidate" as a formality. Interestingly, the Post also reports that Shanahan is "eager to draft and raise" a young quarterback. The Skins have been heavily linked to Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford since early in the college year.
