Very solid 5th inning from Beckett, his curve was fantastic for the 1st inning all game. He has been pretty decent despite not having his best (understatement) command and the ump squeezing him a bit.

Beckett's been alright. A little out of control but he's kept his composure. Good thing it's just the Royals though.

I don't know, JC Romero could come in.

What is with everyone's hatred towards JC Romero? He is one of the best lefty specialists in the game; not his fault that his managers have been dumb enough to use him vs. righties regularly when he clearly can't get them out.

JC Romero vs. Lefties the last 2 years...
2006: .202 BAA, 1.22 WHIP
2005: .198 BAA, 1.06 WHIP

...I suspect Francoma will use him wrong as well but Romero can be a pretty effective reliever vs. lefties.

Oh, snap, I didn't realize he was so good against lefties. A thousand apologize Juan Carlos.

Yeah, he is pretty awesome vs. lefties but he pitched against righties just as much and he got torched by them.

2006: 25 1/3 innings vs. lefties, 23 vs. righties despite allowing a .382 BAA against right handed hitters and 2.35 WHIP while pitching great vs. lefties.

2005: 28 1/3 innings vs. lefties, 28 2/3 innings vs. righties despite allowing a .268 BAA to righties (not too bad) and 2.06 WHIP while pitching great against lefties.

Someone needs to let one of Romero's managers know he is lights out vs. lefties and horrid vs. right handed batters one of these years and he'll be a very good reliever.

Matsuzaka just got Gload to swing and miss on an unreal cutter (very Rivera-esque) then blew a fastball by him on the corner. Best AB of the game for him.
