I dont know they would. Joba is going to be the best catcher in baseball someday, mark that down. If you don't believe me watch him play, the dude is an absolute stud.....and he's one of their own...like you guys view Joba.

On the other hand I don't think Chipper and Smoltzey would get into the car together, they've been fuuuueding

That is my point of how eager ATL would make the trade.

By no means am I questioning your knowledge about the player, but I don't think you realize how good Joba is. He is a prospect possibly on Hughes' level, but just a power pitcher instead. His K/9 rate in Trenton is well over 15. I can see that after 1 start that is good, but not after 4 or 5. Joba is a legit ace prospect, and dealing one of those for a top catching prospect (even if the guy becomes Pudge) isn't a smart thing. Would you deal Peavy for a Pudge in his prime? Not a chance. Would you have dealt Hughes for Salty last season? Not a chance. Think of it like that, because Joba can be that good.

Wow, no. They would be so anxious to make the deal they would even force Smoltz and Chipper to go to the airport together. It was a joke, but apparently it wasn't funny.

What does that have to do with anything?

You are overvaluing Salty and undervaluing Joba if you think that the pitching strapped Braves wouldn't make that deal. Their minor league pitching pipeline is pretty pair and they typically aren't players in the free agent market.

Just like it is very difficult to say anyone is a sure thing. This is why they are called prospects. Prospects.

Wasn't it not trading their true top prospects (and instead doing a good job of selling other not so great prospects as their top prospects) that got the Yanks going in the mid 90's?

Runs can only go on for so long. Maybe it's time to take a step back and rethink and rebuild a bit.

Why is Farnsworth still in pinstripes? Any chance we can get Brian Fuentes since he's been demoted?

The point is we have all these arms and no bats in our system. Take a step back and think about that. All I hear about around here is our 4 stud pitching prospects that are all future aces.

That is how you build a team. Bats can be had in free agency, 23 year old ace pitchers cannot.

Think yankees are willing to pay 25 mill/year for Santana? I'm not even going to lie, a rotation of Santana, Hughes and Wang sounds pretty damn good.

I highly doubt Santana gets $25 million a year. That being said, if he hits free agency the Yankees will spend as much money as they can to court him here. The only other teams who can afford him are the Mets and the Red Sox.

If we can pay Clemens an absurd load of money for pitching a little more than half a season, we can pay the best pitcher in baseball big money for pitching a whole season.

Well i mean it would be the first chance in a while where an ace in actually on the market and able to be had without trading your two best prospects.

I think it's something the yankees have to and will persue. I'm not sure about the Red Sox, but would they really want to spend that kind of money on a staff that is already pretty good, or fill other positional wholes that they have. And the Mets, i would think he would want to stay AL and go yankees and a winning organization willing to pay the most money. Only way other teams have a chance to sign him is if he takes some sort of discount, but by the looks of that article, it doesn't seem too likely.

Satana would be such a big addition. Having a 1-3 rotation of Santana, Wang, Hughes for the next 5 years or so would be great. Get some more depth in that bullpen and the yankees would have one of the pitching teams in the AL.

Do you think we'd trade Ian Kennedy for him? I heard somewhere on the wiretap that Cashman said we wouldn't trade him either. I wouldn't trade Hughes...probably not Joba...but I think I'd deal Kennedy. As good as Kennedy is, we still have some arms to replace him in the system like Bentances and recently draft Brackman.

I'd deal guys like Kennedy or Horne (even though Cashman may not) but in no way does Texas do the deal unless they are getting Hughes or Joba, AND other pieces.

Is it possible that they'll drop their asking price as the deadline approaches?

I doubt it. If we won't give them a top pitcher for Tex, somebody else will. And if they did drop their asking price, then can still get guys better than Kennedy or Horne, neither of which projects as a front of the rotation pitcher. I could see Tex's injury lowering his price, but I don't know if it would be enough to make Texas settle for Kennedy and one or two other mid-level prospects.

I don't know. Procter is pretty overworked and is probably done or close to it. We need a 1B badly but Johnson, to what I remember, isn't exactly very good there. He has some power but his average is pretty low. I don't know, I just don't see him as too big of an upgrade 1B to lose Procter for(who can be turned into for a good player) especially with Philips hitting as well as he is. I don't think I would do it unless we were getting a big difference maker, not necessarily for Procter but in general. -Jitpal
