We're bottom 5 in fts attempted per game

Post#1 » by jzmagik » Mon Jan 28, 2008 2:42 am

Check this, we average 22.7 freethrows a game, which is one of the worst in the league. Yao and Tmac combine to average for 7.4 and 5.6 respectively. So that means the rest of our team shoots on average 9.7 freethrows per game... Keep in mind that Yao does not cut to the basket unless its on a pick and roll. And we all know that Tmac doesn't cut to the basket at all when he doesn't have the ball. We're like the Bulls, our role players live and die by the jumpshot.

That's not really true. We don't take that many jumpshots. But we don't get to the line enough, its true.

All Battier does is take wide open 3s. Alston takes a bunch of 3s and will occasionally dribble inside the line and pull up for a J, sometimes he'll have the courage to penetrate and try to lay it in. Tmac still has the habit of settling for jumpshots. Bonzi attacks and cuts fairly well. Brooks can penetrate and finish but he doesn't get much PT. This is a jumpshooting ballclub outside of Yao.

the only way we can go to the line is if we be agressive and go to the rack, and we havent done that lately.

Our role players havent done that all season. They need to be more aggressive taking it to the rack and cut.

Not exactly a new revelation. Our role players are starting to drive it in more though, but given how we're also bottom 5 in FT% it might not be the boon you think it is.

Doesn't matter how bad we shoot fts, the importance of fts attempted is the type of aggressiveness it shows with how everyone plays, specifically our guards and SF.

You have to realize, it's pretty tough for a team to rid itself of the JVG playbook. It's similar to a guard that falls in love with the jump shot. They lose most of their instinct to take it to the hole.

Yeah, a Corey Maggette type player would be perfect.

That's what it is. We can be agressive, we can do that. But there are times when we are standin' and waitin' for the ball, than we do not have time and we need to shoot 3s.

But hell, on the other hand under 50% cannot happen in the NBA. Scola needs to make them, McGrady also. It's about concentraction.

We need to go to the line more often and we need to make them.
