Bobby Jones Thoughts
what are your thoughts on how Jones played tonight and what do you think he can bring to the table for us if we sign him for the rest of the year.

We already got Battier.
I agree that Bobby Jones would look better next to Yao and Mcgrady, but he's still pretty much a scrub. He looks athletic, but judging by his turnover last night...if he can't beat 3rd stringers off the dribble, then he can't beat starters off the dribble. Keep him, waive him, whatever. Honestly, I'd like to waive him to sign a big man for the playoffs.

Theo Ratliff would of helped as he recently just got waived...but to bad Pistons got him fast. We still don't have an actual backup center behind Deke, so that may hurt us because as of right now, Chuck Hayes and Carl Landry are our backup centers, both undersized.

He's the 12th man for goodness sake! He's a defensive specialist,so on a night where the Rockets have to have a stop and the other team trots out 4-5pt shooters,I'd rather have him on the court than Head or Novak.
Far more importantly, and justifying a roster spot by itself,he gives the scrubs some size when they practice against First Team. He and Green can practice against T-Mac and Battier, providing them decent competition and the opportunity for the kids to learn from some of the best at what they do.
Please tell me why having a younger, more athletic player who could play like Battier is wrong. Shane ain't playing 48 minutes/game and he does slide to the 4 on occassion. I like the idea of having another wing defender on the bench in case Shane gets in foul trouble,or has a minor injury.

Because we don't have a true backup C right now. If we make the playoffs and we Deke is our only true C, then we're going to get swept because (if we make the playoffs) we'll probably end up against SA or LA.

Well no other big names got waived today that the Rockets can use.
So we may be keeping Jones at least for now...
As a member of the Grizzlies, Jones had this statline in a Jan 18 game vs Seattle
20 points (8 for 13 shooting, 2 of 4 on three pointers, 2 of 3 free throws)
13 rebounds (5 offensive)
7 assists
3 steals
1 block
1 turnover
40 minutes (starter - Rudy Gay did not play)
pretty impressive and his opposing 2 guard Kevin Durant had 22 pts on 8 for 18 attempts (got blocked 3 times), 3 rbs, 0 asts. I don't know if Jones guarded him or Mike Miller did.
So it looks like Jones has some game.
