Rockets have no plans to sign Gerald again for NOW

Post#1 » by Texas Longhorns » Sun Mar 9, 2008 9:09 pm

The Rockets did not intend to do Gerald Green a favor by cutting him. They needed a bigger body, and they needed it now. They released Green on Saturday to make room for Rice product Mike Harris.

If Green played, practiced and most of all competed as hard as Harris, he would not be unemployed today. He has a sweet shot and can jump out of the building. Another team will likely take another shot to teach him how to play. It could be the Rockets.

"We have no formal plans for Gerald in the offseason except we will take a close look at signing him," Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said. "We feel the same way about Gerald now as before

I still dont quite get the GG man crush. The guy is a scrub. Only reason he's getting this much attention is because he's a houston native. Tell me one person in NBA history who turned out semi-good who got traded twice and waived once in his first 4 years. Just give it up.

I would sign Green in the summer, but giving him a bad contract, the lowest possible.

In the playoffs the rockets will probably take the one who is making better season between harris and williams. even novak it's going to be a lock.

Justin Williams & Mike Harris can both be on our playoff roster because they were not signed/ or waived before March 1st. Another great move by Daryl Morey. W/out the Bonzi Wells, Mike James and Kirk Snyder deals we would not have this flexibility.

Great to hear, thanks for the info.

JR Smith was in an awfully similar situation, and is a very similar player...Chauncey Billups bounced around the league...Gerald Wallace was left unprotected in the expansion draft....there are plenty of examples of guys who didn't do a whole lot in their first 3 years and caught on later.

I don't know why people don't see it. Gerald Green doesn't have a lot of potential. He has very limited potential.

When you see athletic players, you think potential because they can make plays so effortlessly. That's not true for Gerald. He can dunk. Fine. But he can't dribble, pass, or defend. He has no jump shot - just a set shot. He was labelled as a "smooth" player in everything he does. I have yet to see it. He looks awkward when he plays basketball.

Worst of all, he has unbelievably low IQ. I hope the Rockets don't waste a roster spot on him again. It's crazy how he was compared to T-mac.

Athleticism does not equal potential.

I bet those of you who made spur of the moment GG accounts, feel stupid now. This trade had bust written all over it from the get go.
