MVP's are voted because of their stats & the effect they have on their team.... You dont have to win a championship to be an MVP (see Dirk N: Mavericks Playoffs vs Golden State) ..... if his numbers improve and he takes the rockets to the top of the standings, during the regular season, he should be considered the MVP. He could be a candidate if the rockets keep winning but there are 4 or 5 others in this league who's numbers are better.

There's absolutely no chance he wins it, there are many, many more deserving candidates out there this year.

Nah, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Adelman get Coach of the Year and Landry 6th Man of the Year.

Manu has 6th man wrapped up. maybe they should have a 20 minute per game limit for the award.

the gm's have their head so far up Kobe's ass to not vote him this year. Every year Kobe has is group of supporters that vote for him, then he'll get the extra to vote for him because he deserves.

Realistically though, I Think it should be Chris Paul, he's absolutely annihilating the West, but they won't give it to a 2nd year player over a legend in his prime so..

It's actually Chris' 3rd year in the NBA not his second.

In 1979 Moses Malone won his 1st MVP award in his 3rd year in the NBA.
That was when the players voted for the winner but they changed it in 1980 to where the sportswriters and broadcasters vote instead.

Kareem in 1978-1979: (his 10th season)
23.8 points per game
12.8 rebounds per game
5.4 assists per game
4.0 blocks per game
1.0 steals per game
3.5 turnovers per game
57.7% field goal shooting
Lakers finished 47-35 record

Moses in 1978-1979: (his 3rd season)
24.8 points per game
17.6 rebounds per game
1.8 assists per game
1.5 blocks per game
1.0 steals per game
4.0 turnovers per game
54.0% field goal shooting
Rockets finished 47-35 record

Only if the Rockets are the #1 seed and he starts averaging 30+, then he would have a chance but probably be 2nd to Kobe

If they can substain this type of play and get the 4th (5th in the standings) seed vs utah I see him getting some votes... The rockets are playing verry good ball this year. Great ball movement and verry good defense. I really liked their chances they were my seccond dark horse team with The lakers and especialy the spurs as my favorites with houston and phoenix being darkhorse picks in the western confrence

like I said Kobe is way too powerful to lose to Chris Paul.

If the rockets can somehow get higher in the standings and especially finishing in the first of the SouthWest division, than he should at least get some nominations for maybe the top 5 MVP candidates. As it stands, T-mac doesn't have a chance right now. Especially since Kobe and lakers are on fire.

MVP cares more individual success than team success - watch Dirk last year and Nash past few years. Statically, T-mac stands no chance to get an MVP award but I still love how T-mac being unselfishness and trust his teammates.

Lead your team to Top 3 in the stronger conference, then you'll be a serious MVP candidate. History has shown that already.

He's definitely picking up steam from a national standpoint. He's probably vaulted himself into the conversation, but there's really no chance he wins it IMO.
