If he's suddenly learned to play the game of basketball and regained his first step as if by magic over the offseason in his tenth year in the league, I have no doubt you're right!
He played better than I expected this year, true (and sad), but so did Luther Head (also sad), so that isn't necessarily saying much. I'd be happier if Aaron Brooks improved his game and came back as a legit backup. At best, I see Francis going for 5.7/2.5/2.5/1 in 44 games (i.e. basically what he did this year, but with slightly better shooting percentages - maybe, i dunno, 37% fg? is that asking too much?

Guard Steve Francis on Wednesday exercised an option on a second year of his contract, as he announced he would in January
He already exercised his option.....but I wouldn't care if he was traded. That is how he can help this team the most.

What a difference (almost) a year makes. Last summer, many of us were debating who would be a better addition: Steve Francis or Chris Webber.
Webber is now out of the league, and Francis isn't far behind.
And to think at one point people actually got into serious debates on whether Francis or Baron Davis was the better PG.

A PG has to go,Francis is least valuable and easiest contract to move. I'd almost keep Jackson so team could use his then expiring contract at mid-season trade deadline.
D-Wade was surprisely at the game also.

Year one: Francis
Year two: Francis
Year three: Francis
Year four: Francis
Year five: Davis
Year six: Francis
Year seven: Davis
Year eight: Davis
Year nine: Davis
Year six is debatable but both players were adjusting to new teams that year and Francis played in 32 more games that year than Baron who was injured for most of it

What?
The first four years: Francis
The last five years: Baron
Baron was made the top 10 MVP voting once, Francis has never done that.

Anyone is better than b-jax to be honest. And we should keep francis, he has a small contract so its not like we can find any decent value for same price unless we trade him with some bigger contract.
PG rotation
Alston (25) / francis (20) / brooks (back up)
Should be okay

Ron ron on how commited he is to the team.
If he tells me to jump off the building, I'll jump off the building.

His contract is expiring, which means we can trade him.
It's possible to trade him along with Jackson for a player that makes around 9 - 11 million per year. Hint, hint...Mike Miller

Steve was voted to start the ASG 3 times, Baron has never done that.
Year six was Francis' first year in Orlando and the year that Baron got traded from NO to GSW midseason.
2004-2005
Games: Steve 78 > Baron 46
PPG: Steve 21.3 > Baron 20.2
APG: Steve 7 < Baron 8.2
RPG: Steve 5.8 > Baron 4.0
FG %: Steve 42.3 > Baron 38.7
FT%: Steve 82.3 > Baron 76.1
3fg%: Steve 29.9 < Baron 33.3
TPG: Steve 4.1 < Baron 3.0
SPG: Steve 1.4 < Baron 2.1
I think Steve had a better year in 2004-2005, certainly playing in 32 more games should count for something.
So in 9 years it's Steve 5 to Baron 4 in regular season play.
Of course Baron's team beating a #1 seed is huge.
I still think their careers are about equal (so far)
but unless Steve can come back healthy Baron will surely
have the better career when all is said and done.

Based on the last three years, there is NO WAY Steve Francis gets 20 minutes a game.
A more realistic scenario would be:
Alston (30) / Brooks (10) / Francis (8)

Veteran backup PGs are a dime in a dozen, don't hesitate about trading Bobby Jackson. I'm sure there are some vet PGs that can handle a backup PG position for 10-15mins. Anthony Frog Johnson? He's solid at that. Brooks needs to develop, and if he can develop into a capable backup next season, then that just saves us money.

I'm hoping he pulls a Bonzi and comes back in shape, and ready to play. He should have the proper motivation, and was really good in a couple of spurts this year. He could definitely be a key contributor if he's healthy.
