R.Wallace upgrade over Scola; is it worth losing Alston?

Post#1 » by mharris3 » Sat Jun 14, 2008 12:44 am

I'm not a Rockets guy, but played one on a mock draft board. I've heard it said that the Rockets aren't willing to mess with chemistry but unlike Artest, Rasheed Wallace is loved by all of his teammates.

You would be buying low to acquire him this offseason. He has flourished when there is another big man on the floor. I see Alston on a downhill slope and the accumulation of young PGs tells me that Houston management agrees.

Therefore I did the following deal with Detroit:
R. Wallace, Samb for Scola, Alston, Jackson
http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=4652526

Lineup:
Head/ Brooks
McGrady/ Francis
Battier/ Hayes/ Harris
R. Wallace/ Landry/ Novak
Ming/ Mutombo/ Samb

Samb, is every bit as good as the project Centers available in the late 1st round (a younger version of Mutombo). His acquistion allows you to use the pick #25 on a guard like Mario Chalmers or Chris-Douglas Roberts. You could combine your 2nd round pick and Chuck Hayes for a more offensive minded SF, or draft somone like Will Daniels.

Is Head capable of running the show? Did I get fleeced or does this team have an overall better shot at the championship in 08/9?

Head is trash as a PG and comes up missing in the playoffs. I hope he is gone before the year starts. No way we can win with him starting at PG. NONE

Yes, giving Head a bigger role is just what we need.

Aside from fact Detroit would NEVER do that,it would work for Houston if Rockets picked up another PG to start-perhaps Jarrett Jack w/TE and 09 First.(Or even better Jack and 13 for 25 and 09 First.)

only thing consistent about Rasheed is his lack of effort so I say no.

I don't want Sheed, old, bad contract, his current contract to expire soon, plus I think we all know hes going to pull a Latrell Sprewell.

There's no way that we'd trade two starters for a guy who plays a position that we don't need filled.

Hayes is a 4, Novak is a 3, and Francis cannot stay healthy enough to play pick up games, much less back up T-Mac for an entire season.

Nope, T-Mac isn't going to Detroit (or anywhere, for that matter).

Ì don't do it, i want a third good solid scorer, but not this scenario.
Sheed > Scola

Considering age and contract:
Scola > Sheed
remember Rasheed is 34, same age Shaq had last year..

Plus i don't think Pistons need Alston, Rockets need much more than them and hes good with RA.

I don't know why we could even consider this...

We have to give up our starting point guard (Alston), our best trade asset (Jackson's expiring contract), and our power forward for now and the future (Scola).

Morey didn't even want to give up Scola for Mike Miller, and Miller is going to be 5 years younger than Wallace when the season starts.

I do not want Sheed either. Aside from his bad attitude, we already have our future at PF in Scola and Landry.

I haven't been following the trade talks, but why would the pistons trade rasheed for alston? They are not desperate for a PG either.

This would be a bad deal for the rockets too, head can't play the point, PERIOD.

Of course this is not about Alston, it's about Scola. even though he barely mentioned Scola's name.

You guys just stumbled onto our solution. We should start him at center.

Consider this was Scola's first year and as a rookie he was pretty damn good. Helped with the 22 game winning streak and did okay in the Play Offs. Trade him for Rasheed? No. You put Yao back in the line up and Landry alongside and we have a formidable and skilled front line that can compete against any one.

We are willing to get rid of Head, Jax, and Francis if the opportunity arrises, then Novak, Hayes, Harris and ? That's it.

Though I've been away from the boards for several weeks, one name I've seen quite a bit is Rasheed Wallace. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Sheed on the Rockets. However, we'd have to give up a couple important pieces to get him, his contract is not pretty (especially when you consider his age), and I'm confident in our current PF rotation of Scola and Landry. I think we need to add a consistent 3rd scorer to the team, and I'd imagine we do so by getting rid of BJax and Luther (assuming Brooks develops enough for backup minutes next year). Say NO to Rasheed Wallace, especially at the expense of Scola.
