Battier is the least of our problems. McGrady and Yao deserves most share of the blame.

when your opponent is putting their defensive attention on your two best players
it's the other guys responsibility to step up and play better offense
Battier did a better job this year than last year but still not enough
i guess he's just a bad match up against the Jazz
his defense is pretty much useless against the Jazz because SG and SF are their two weakest positions for offense

i know Gay can easily be shutdown by a good defensive player
but not every team got 2 good defensive wing players they can put on T-Mac and Gay
i know defense win champion
but you can't *beep* win when you can't score

When T-Mac and Yao are getting doubled it's up to the likes of Battier to step up and make plays. He can't do that. He's a horrendous offensive player. Having he and Alston start together leaves us really hurting on offense, so yes, he is one of the first people I'd place the blame on.

All this talk about Battier was ironic. Boozer, Dunleavy, Williams took a back seat to Battier during those Duke years and he could do it all defend and score by driving, shooting and etc and was a ball handler. WTF happened? The 1 dimension Battier that we see these days was potentially so much more when he was Duke's Team Captain. But I'd still keep him and most of this unit intact for another year.

Bigger problem is when your two best players can't stay healthy at the same time long enough to put that complaint to the test. Our team as a whole was better than the 07 version and I have to believe that had Yao been there, things may have gone our way. Jackson was an upgrade at backup PG, too bad he was forced into starting a few games and playing big minutes. Rafer(when healthy) and Shane had better showings in the 08 playoffs and the Scola/Landry combo more than held their own against a Boozer/Milsap combo that shredded us last year. The only guy who didn't step up was Head.

problem is we are better on pick-and-roll defense without Yao
biggest problem i had other players don't step up when both Yao and T-Mac are playing (maybe they are not healthy together long enough for us to see)
i want to see Battier to get himself involve in the offense (like in '08 playoffs) instead of us spotting out on the 3pts line (beside that left handed hook which is not that effective)

same as last off-season
i don't care if our team is below .500 by the end of 2008
i want Brooks to be our backup PG
i want to see how well he can develop
if not then stick with BJax or trade

face it we are not going to get a 3rd option via trade or draft (not every year you'll see Boozer, Arenas, Redd in 2nd round, beside they didn't contribute in their 1st year)
we are not trading Yao or T-Mac
so our best chance is for our young players to develop
they can only get better by playing
i see flashes in Landry and Brooks
i believe they can get better
