Scroll down click play on the left hand side where it says JVG 7/30-08, I heard it in the car while I was driving this morning.

Basically to sum everything up, he stated that he liked the deal, chemistry shouldn't be a concern with Artest due to the fact that he has played with Adelman and it shouldn't be a problem. He thinks Artest is a very good defender, but sometimes hes overrated. Offensivly he thinks no one in the league can stop him without a double team and being highly underrated. He then went on to say how many mismatches this causes teams on offense, with McGrady and Artest on the wing. There was much more it was a pretty good interview...check it out.

Artest is overrated defensively? Wow.

Some interesting words from Gundy. He said we're now an elite team, up there with Boston and Lakers. He said Scola, Alston, Battier, Artest, Yao, Tmac are the best 6 men group in the league. He thinks we should trade "spare parts" such as Head, Novak and Landry(hmmm) for a better backup PG. He said while Artest is a very good defender but overrated. However he's an underrated offensive player. Him and Mcgrady would be matchup nightmares night in and night out. He said health continues to be our biggest issue and Artest is always a concern but he thinks Adlemen can handle him.

He said since Artest is so big and strong he has difficulty going through screens to defend his man. Bascially he's a great 1 on1 defender but just ok going through screens. I've heard the same thing from King fans in that Artest can't defend players that score off of multiple screens ala Rip Hamiton.

Yeah, he doesn't have the lateral quickness that many of the perimeter defenders have, thats one of the reasons he thinks hes an overrated defender. He thinks hes a very good defender, but somewhat overrated.

but how many wing players come off of screens that often besides hamilton, peja and kevin marrtin? not only that but tmac can guard those players... or battier can when he is in... the best part about this trade is the fact that tmac can rest... what team will score on houston with battier and artest defending the perimeter? but the team still needs a pf and a back up center...

If we resign Landry we don't need another PF and Mutombo won't play as much and Dorsey/Scola/Hayes will share time at backup C when we go small

JVG always tells it like it is. I think Artest has become overrated defensively as well. He's a very versatile defender, but he's not a lockdown perimeter defender like Battier. Artest will be good because his strength will allow him to guard bigger guys Battier can't.

JVG is the man. I love his interviews and his work as a broadcaster. Fresh, honest, and straightforward takes.
