I'm in Austin now, at Texas, but I know my parents are still without power. I do know one family that regained their electricity but we figure its because they live very close to the hospital. My parents chilled with them for a night.

The remaining tree in the front lawn fell across the neighbor's driveway (the other was taken by Rita), and the power lines are down behind the house so it could be as much as another week before they get power back.

My family lives near "the villages", or the Memorial area, or the west side of Houston between 610 and the Sam Houston tollway.

An estimated 6,000,000 people have lost power due to Ike from Texas to Ohio to New York.

Im back... I evacuated to The Woodlands... lot of good that did... Here in Webster there was some major wind damage... I haven't seen a lot of water damage but my place is still ok... My moms house in Dickinson took about a foot of water and my little brothers trailer in San Leon is unlivable now.
I hope all of yall are alright.

Damn...still no power. My parents live in SugarLand and they have power so I'm at their place. Their power came back on yesterday afternoon so we skipped Cypress and went straight over there. Why the hell do all the people on the other side of my street have power!? Pissed me off. I spoke to my neighbor and he was like, yeah we only lost power for a few minutes and it came right back on. Kind of sh** is that? Ah well. I packed up everything I could in a cooler, threw eveything that was in the refrigerator in the trash, grabbed a few essentials and drove over to my parents' house.

One disturbing thing is that they have the slowest most prehistoric dial up internet EVER, but hey it's better than nothing. It has been hard getting online with my phone because the lines have been jam packed. At least I don't have to go to work though. More good news...I was able to get home in time to save my T-bones and found a pack of ribeyes in the freezer as well along with some other things. No need to go to any PODs (points of distribution) to get MREs (meals ready to eat) for me. We broke out the grill.

As far as damage goes, the swing/slide thingy I bought for my girl is still intact in the backyard, my hoop was still standing, trash can didn't blow away, and the roof was fine. Only casualties appeared to be my satellite dish and the door on my mailbox of all things. The lady who lives next door to me no longer has a fence and she has a dog from hell so we need to get that taken care of ASAP. There are fallen trees everywhere and some people lost the roof on their homes. I saw some blocked roads, bent over signs, destroyed traffic lights, trees fallen on houses, and a few busted windows. It was a pretty amazing sight to see when I got back into Houston and saw the damage. Food, ice, and gas are all hard to come by and the lines are absolutely ridiculous if you try to go and get any of the above mentioned items. I couldn't even imagine how Galveston is going to get past this after seeing how much more damage they sustained than us.

At least I have enough cognac to last a month.

I'm in Killeen Texas right now, but we plan on commuting back sometime Sunday afternoon. My understanding from people I know in my area is that there was a lot of wind, a little rain, no flooding, minimal property damage, and a mass loss of power. I live in Missouri City in Fort Bend County by the way. Over 3 million Houston residents are currently without electricity.

KILLEEN? I'd stick out a hurricane over that hellhole anyday. It's right above Vidor on my Places-to-never-ever-ever-ever-go list. Talk about irony. Sorry man :nonono:

I went by the house (in midtown) this morning to fetch some things (mixers, mostly) and there were Reliant/Centerpoint trucks all over the place. Hopefully, the area will have power shortly. My neighbor's going to call me when it comes on. I'll post here once I get the call.

Yeah, funny thing about that, my neighbors a block down the street have power, neighbors on the other side have power, even other units in my apartment have power, but I don't! The place is small, only 24 units in a big square, but still seems to run off two transformers.

Suckfestival.

Yep. Pretty sure you live in or very nearby my building. The 2nd floor is dark. As of 20 minutes ago, the 3rd floor has power. (10:55 P.M., Tuesday)

My bad.

Lemme know if you need Bourbon.

**Edit: Notice I didn't offer you vodka.** Christian charity only goes so far.

P.S. Brennan's will re-open, eventually. This is glorious news.

I have both....and power...and a little water pressure. But even if I had neither power nor ice, I would have never run out of booze. You, sir, have jacked up priorities.

Did you just call me ignorant?

Anyways... I guess I was a tad bit unprepared. I waited till the last minute and thought I would be just fine with a liter of Crown and a 1.75 liter of Hennessey, which is very good on the rocks i might add. Not to mention a 24 pack of Heineken!

Whoa... As I sip my Jack n Coke and I think about this past weekend... I drank all that in just a couple of days. Am I really becoming too immune to alcohol? Maybe my girlfriend was right when she said I was becoming an alcoholic? Am I having an intervention right now?

Nah... I must be tripping !!

You should have power now. Mine came on about two hours ago. (1:30 P.M., Wednesday)

Brennan's is the best restaurant in Houston, bar none. In midtown, off Scott. The other location is in nola. Same (fractious) family also owns Commander's Palace in nola.

Nope. My block has 2 internal transformers that only power houses that sit on it, and only part of those at that. Apparently, fixing 2 transformers, both of which were knocked out by fallen trees and aren't situated on a road, to get 6 houses and part of a small apartment complex back online isn't important for them :P

Hope you guys are all doing ok, I finally got power last night, good thing too...almost ran out of beer and batteries for my CD player.

Thank BUDDHA it cooled off earlier in the week because I would have gone completely insane if it stayed hot...a bear can only take so much.
