Top 50 Players 2008-2009

http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/NBATop50/

Neat list. Like his takes on it.

Yao #10 - http://nba.fanhouse.com/2008/09/29/nba- ... o-10/#cont

McGrady #29 - http://nba.fanhouse.com/2008/09/11/nba- ... o-29/#cont

Battier #42 - http://nba.fanhouse.com/2008/08/18/shan ... ba-player/
http://dberri.wordpress.com/2007/11/01/ ... e-battier/
http://www.basketball-reference.com/lea ... areer.html

Artest #43 - http://nba.fanhouse.com/2008/08/28/nba- ... o-43/#cont
Like his take that Artest's presence, contrary to popular belief that it IS going to help our offense, is primarily going to turbocharge our already impressive defense. (duh, considering I said the same thing like 3 days ago, but as with other things, he elaborates and says a lot of things I wasn't aware of)

Yao should be top 10, Tmac should be top 20, Artest should be at the least top 30; if not 25. Meh, screw the rankings, let these guys prove it on the court.

Hm, I disagree with a few (Pau, Kevin Martin, Chauncey - who he makes a convincing argument for nonetheless, Bosh), but overall I'm curious how some of you think the rankings are bad? He seems to back them up pretty well. In fact, looking at them now, without a counter argument, I'd say they might be the best player rankings I've ever seen.

I disagree that Elton Brand is the 14th best player in the league

This is why I totally disagree with Tracy being this low.... you insert Elton Brand, Parker, Gasol, Bynum, etc. (7-8 others) and tell me they could have taken the Utah Jazz to a 6 game series?? Or even won ten games in a row without Yao. Listen Tracy is far far more respected in terms of basketball ability then nearly half of the people ahead of him listed. THE END. Sure his shooting percentage is not where it used to be, but he is a 25/5/5 player every year and the opponents main goal is to defend McGrady. Ya ya ya, he does get hurt i know, but he is still one of the most feared players in the league. The End! McGrady is a 10-15 best NBA player

True, those guys (Parker exempted) don't offer the playmaking AND scoring ability that McGrady does, but you have to flip it over as well. McGrady doesn't offer the efficiency, rebounding, and secondary interior defense that those guys do (again, sans Parker). Those things go a looooooooong way toward helping a team win, too. You're right when you say that a post player can't have as much impact on a team by himself as a playmaker can, since the former relies on his guys to run their own stuff much more than the latter does, but you're overlooking how much the inefficiencies of a McGrady or an Iverson hurt their team's overall ability to produce points without a slew of offense-capable good rebounders and defenders to compensate (which is why Iverson's Sixers were able to make the finals).

I don't know exactly how well Parker translates compared to McGrady, but they're in roughly the same class 25-30 on these rankings, so...

Elton Brand doesn't have consistantly good seasons like he has one good one then he doesn't follow it up but of all the people on this list Melo is the most overrated
