Accuscore: Season Preview - Houston Rockets

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Tue Oct 28, 2008 12:00 am

They are predicting the following stats and the following record for the Rockets.

http://accuscore.com/articles/nba-articles/nba-preview%3a-southwest-division/

Code: Select all

ACCUSCORE SEASON FORECAST BASED ON 10,000 SIMULATED SEASONS
TEAM TOTALS W L PS PA WIN DIVISION PLAYOFFS

Houston Rockets 59 23 102.0 92.0 43.2% 99.1%

WINS 60+ 55-59 50-54 45-49 40-44 35-39 30-34 25-29 21-24 <=20

Win Total Range 51% 21% 17% 9% 2% 0% 0% 0% 0% 0%

The addition of Ron Artest makes Houston the favorite to take the Southwest Division. Their excellent defense is forecasted to hold teams to just 92 points per game. Ron Artest is capable of averaging over 20, but on the Rockets he is expected to take a backseat to Yao and McGrady. Artest helps the offense with a valuable 3.5 assists per game (forecasted) which is a high figure for a small forward. Injuries are always a concern for the Rockets, but with Artest they have quality depth at every position except Center. Another serious Yao Ming injury would likely cost the Rockets a shot at the Championship. By relying more on 2nd year PF Luis Scola to provide some offense the Rockets could cut down Yao's minutes in the regular season and hopefully keep him fresh and healthy all season long.

Luis Scola 8.8 1.1 5.8 3.5 49.0% 1.8 67.3% 0.0 0.2 0.8

OTHER 3.3 0.4 0.6 1.3 45.0% 0.3 77.6% 0.5 0.1 0.1

Also they predicted the Boston Celtics to go 58-24. So far on this prediction the Rockets have the best record as far as prediction but they haven't done the pacific yet.

I'm more impressed with the scroll box you put in your post. Fancy!

Predictions don't necessarily mean anything.

Lets see...
Yao is predicted to score 1/2 ppg less and 1 rebound less a game than last yr.
McGrady 1/2 point less,
Rafer 2 1/5 points less,
Scola-who they suggest should provide more offense-is predicted to score 1 1/2 points less,1 rebound fewer,
Battier 1.2 points less and 1/2 rebound less,
Landry 1 1/2 points less,1/2 rebound less,
Head 5 points a game less.

I sort of doubt every single Rocket will score and rebound less than they did the yr before. Considering players who are no longer on the team scored just over 1100 points last yr(13.5ppg),I really doubt it.

McGrady can put up 10 points, Yao 15, Artest 12…it really doesn’t matter; right now each are at a point in their careers that winning a ring is the most important accomplishment.

The players who left took away 13.5 and artest brings in 14.5 alone. The math works out to be putting up 101ppg and giving up 92ppg and that looks pretty good.
