First,I admit I don't have any personal knowledge of Sean so what I think I know is all second hand.
Williams came across in the interview you cited as a kid who has a strong sense of entitlement and little of personal responsability. There was a reason such a talented kid fell to NJ and at the time he was considered one of those risk vs reward picks. Well it looks like NJ didn't get the reward. The bit about not listening to all the coaches instructions also shows a very high ego. You believe Motumbo can be a great mentor/teacher for him...but what if Sean doesn't listen? What if he's so arrogant and sure of himself that he thinks something along the lines of "why should I pay any attention to this old fossil who can't even get into a game" ? We've all know someone who just won't listen to good advice, and Sean from a distance appears to be one of those guys. As much as I want someone w/his tools,I'm greedy enough to also want his head to be in the right place and I don't think that's the case w/Sean.
There's also the issue of how many young guys can the Rockets effectively teach. The team has Dorsey to bring along, and I doubt they're letting Carl develope on his own. They still haven't signed Deke. When they do,how much time will he have to spend on a Williams? He is friends w/Yao,will prob still work w/Carl,prob help Dorsey,so what does that leave? If the Rox acquire a young big,he has to be someone who WANTS to improve, who will seek out help, who will make the staff and players like Deke,Ron,etc spend the time helping him. For now I believe the team needs a self-starter,not someone who has to be pushed and prodded and who resists the pushing and prodding.
One last thought. There were a ton of raw, talented tall bigs in the last draft. The Rockets apparently made no effort to get any of them. I doubt they will try to trade for one now.

The Rockets drafted the best defensive big in college last year -- Joey Dorsey. What ton of talented bigs are you refering to that we passed up that are better than Sean Williams or Dorsey? There was NOBODY other than Dorsey w/ the defensive upside of SW in the draft where we picked. In terms of how many young guys can we teach, it would be the same as last year -- 2. Last year we had 2 rookies (Landry & A. Brooks) and we can view Williams & Dorsey as the developmental guys. Brooks & Landry are now ready. By next season, hopefully, at least one if not both SW & Dorsey should be younger versions of Theo Ratliff & Ben Wallace. In the mean time we use Deke so we can win NOW.

Ehhh... Im content with our bigman rotation. Well that is once we re-sign Deke. I like Williams but Id like to see what we can out of Dorsey first.

Rocketsterps,
20 6'10" or taller players were selected in the '08 Draft,8 after Dorsey was picked.
18 went after the 13nth pick. The 13 pick is of interest because we know the Rockets had talks w/Portland for that pick. From the 20 pick(traded away by Denver for a future First) to the Seattle 24 pick 4 were taken,1 of whom-Anderson-has moved ahead of Williams in NJ and 2 w/a world of potential.
The point is if the Rockets wanted to pay the price they could have moved up and picked one of the tall bigs. They did want to move up,but to get Donte Greene not one of the many PF/Cs that were available.

Anyhoo,w/Brooks being out for a few weeks, the Rockets aren't trading Head and they're not going to use the 15nth roster spot on a PF.

If we really just need a big man for the sheer sake of having a big man, there's no better candidate than this guy. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, now you too can own your very own cheap, tall, and ugly-to-the-point-of-vomit-inducing shot blocky thingerdoo, all for the ridiculously low price of $9.95!!! (native NBA inflation adjusted price rate factor of 120k)

Wolves Might Move Calvin Booth

There’s still a decent chance the Wolves could trade Calvin Booth’s salary slot or buy him out of his expiring $1.14 million contract in the next few weeks and bring back, say, Chris Richard or acquire a player cut by another team.

As previously stated, I heard Darryl Morey on several occasions describe Joey Dorsey as the BEST defensive big man in this years draft. That included EVERYONE... rounds 1 & 2. There would be no need to draft or trade for a tall guy who sucks just because he's tall. I suggested we consider Sean Williams not just because he long and athletic but because he fits what I heard Morey say is "the future" of the big man positions in the league. W/ guards as quick as Chris Paul, Parker, Derek Rose, TJ Ford, Westbrook, Bayless, Conley Jr. etc. you need a long, quick shotblocker to defend the rim because those type guards break backcourt defenses down. Sean Williams was the best shotblocker in last years draft. Sean Williams is an ELITE shotblocker right now. After development, Sean Williams and Joey Dorsey could complement our rotation and each other very well. Williams could help defend the long, athletic 4's and 5's like Bosh, Garnett, Wallace, Gasol, Aldridge etc. And Dorsey could help defend the bulky 4's and 5's like Boozer, Brand, Amare, West etc. W/ Hayes/Battier/Artest/Dorsey/ Yao/ Mutumbo and Sean Williams there would not be a frontcourt player we couldn't match up against on defense.

ps Aaron Brooks will only miss 1 week if that. He was at practice today and shot around. Moreover, we have a 2.2 trade exception from the Bonzi Wells deal so we can trade for Sean Williams w/ or w/out giving up Luther Head.
