Yao the Yuckster? Retiring in '10?

Post#1 » by ecuhus1981 » Fri Oct 31, 2008 10:34 pm

Just a curious DAL/NJN fan here (good game last night, btw). I saw the latest RealGM wire update, and found Yao Ming's comments very interesting:

"I'll be retired already."

The article deftly covers for Ming, calling it "joke mode". But is Yao the type to crack a joke like this? It seemed very unusual for the stoic figure I have always taken Ming to be.

it's just a joke
he once told the reporters he's going to put his toe nail (the one that they took out in his toe surgery) on ebay

Yao also said he would retire immediately if China beat USA in the olympics.

So yea, Yao is a jokester.

Yao is known for being a joker with the media. There shouldn't be any worries here.

Yao was joking. Specifically he was making a mocking reference to the stories he was "retired" from the national Chinese Team.
Reporters following the team often mention Yao's sense of humor.
Remember the joint appearance w/McGrady on the Jimmy Kimmel show a couple of yrs back when T-Mac was out w/a bad back? Yao said they went to see a movie-Broke Back Mtn.
During this yrs camp a rookie was talking about stopping Yao in practice and Yao laid the smack-down saying yeah but when the games counted the rookie was going to be sitting on the bench watching Yao play.

Given that he is always injured, maybe he will retire by 30.

Panic mode engage. Yaaaaiieeh.

Also he was talking about the world championships / olympics, from which he should be retired both at that time and currently.

Yao is one of--if not THE--funniest guy in the NBA. Even in his earlier years when he wasn't as proficient in English.

He once told Tyson Chandler he was going to make him swallow his mouth piece :o

Humor, humility and skill. You gotta love the guy.
