Joey Dorsey

Post#1 » by kevinbs » Wed Nov 5, 2008 7:21 pm

I saw plenty of chances to get Dorsey minutes last night, but it did not happen. Does anyone know what the holdup is? I think he is an improvement over Landry and Hayes...... What are your thoughts?

He is not an improvement over Landry and Hayes right now.
His play was up and down in the pre season so he will have to wait to get his chances in a blowout game or when injuries happen.

I expect him to take advantage of that chance because I think he is a good player.

However he will only play in the playoffs if injuries happen , I expect him to be part of the rotation only next year.

Need him on the floor when Yao's in foul trouble. We dug ourselves that big hole in the first half last night b/c we couldn't rebound the ball.

I agree...the way the team was last night (stagnant) is the perfect time to infuse some young energy into the game. IDK maybe he's still too raw? Landry didn't get PT until later on in the season...

I still think it is too early for him to get in the game. IMO, the only reason Landry got in the games last season was because our team was struggling during that part in the season.

I told you guys Adelman is no different than JVG. He's not going to play the young guys. Brooks didn't get the chance until he see both James and Francis suck. Then he wanted BJax instead of Brooks. Last night game I think we could be better down the stretch with Hayes/Scola/Artest/T-Mac/Brooks. Like Worrell said Adelman is too loyal to his starters.

Yeah you got that right. But if we had JVG last season I do not think Landry nor Brooks would have played decent minutes last season. At least Adelman gave them a chance.

You'll probably wont see Brooks if we had JVG last season. Adelman wanted Brooks. Landry is still not ready on defense. Committed too many stupid fouls. Took Hayes one season to not being a foul prone. It would take Dorsey time too. But they wont improve if not giving playing time.

Reports in the preseason indicated Dorsey is learning the team defense. Last season, it also took quite quite a while before Landry had the chance to play and even then he admitted that he was somewhat lost in team defense, shouting at Hayes (whom is on the bench) asking him what he should do then (as reported in one article in Chron).

The rockets also did not have the luxury of a big lead to play those "end of bench" players in the 1st 4 games so far. It will take Dorsey a lot longer since we have Scola, Landry, Hayes, ahead of him in rotation.

I'd like to see those reports. The guy is 25 years old. He should know how to play team defense already.

Say what you will about JVG, but he gave minutes to Chuck Hayes and Luther Head when he found out they weren't bad. Another thing about Jeff is he wasn't opposed to seeing what could be done if things were going bad. If things aren't going good under Adelman he's going to still stick with his 8.5 man rotation. Brent Barry is going to get his 18-22 minutes, one of our forwards are going to get less than 10, and nobody will get off the bench.

Ths is not entirely true , Adelman will make changes when and is willing to try changes , but he is willing to give the rotation guys who earned their spot in pre season more than 4 games before he will replace them.

Last year both Francis and Brooks got their chances when James sucked , and Landry got minutes after he played well in a blowout win.
If we continue to struggle Adelman will make changes , I think it's ok to give the guys playing now some more time.
