Rockets need to Contact Reebok ASAP! This is ridiculous!

Post#1 » by killermamba » Tue Nov 18, 2008 5:30 am

Ever since Yao's been with Reebok, he's been an injury plague player waiting to happen. This is getting ridiculous and it's quite obviously his crappy P-O-S shoes. Anybody who has seen his shoes upclose and especially on someone of his stature knows how serious this issue is. Those shoes are designed as a joke. Who makes low stops with barely any ankle support for a 7'6'' guy. Obviously Reebok is incompetent and its time for the Rockets to do something. Thoughts?

Is it the Shoe that causes the injury or is the injury that causes the shoe..... Think about it.

Not to sound corporatist, but it's obvious that you should buy out Reebok, fire all their orthopedists, and completely rebuild their shoe lines with a focus on "making sense".

Hi Killermamba, I'm a representative of Reebok and I totally agree with you. I'll be presenting your case to the top executives tomorrow. You're absolutely right, I don't know what we were thinking; this IS ridiculous! Something must be done!

HAHAHA I was thinking the same thing.

For the record however, when shoes don't have good grip or lose their grip on say a dusty floor, more ankle sprains have been noted. That said, all players play on the same court and I see them cleaning it all the time so I doubt it's that. Maybe it is his shoe, but Yao had a broken leg and then a stress fracture last year. Stress fractures come from too much pressure on a bone and it "breaks." This could occur if he was holding his wife doing her against the wall, amongst other activities while not wearing shoes.

I do think they make crappy shoes though, but adidas has a way worse track record and those huarache's 04 i think. The ones kobe wore when he hurt his ankle really bad and dirk did the same wearing the same shoes. I haven't sprained my ankle for almost 2 years until I wore the same huaraches (spell check). The jury is still out....

I originally commented on Yao's shoes back in the day but Reeboks are quite nice.. Their running shoes are way better than any Airmax or Shox by Nike. It's more on how Yao plays. He should take up martial arts and learn how to balance himself.. Maybe some Tai Chi or whatever..

Or it might have to do with the fact that he is 7'5" and over 300 lbs

Nah. Too simple of an explanation.

It HAS to be the shoes... which are caused by the injury.

Let me start off by saying that Nike is the worst shoe manufacturer in the world. Their shoes suck so badly! What you are saying about Yao's kicks may be true, but what do you suggest, that he switches to Nike? Unfortunately, Brooks and Asics have not started making Basketball shoes, (And they make the best shoes period.) I have only worn Converse or Reebok to play ball in, and i still maintain that Shawn Kemp Reignman 1's were the best shoe I ever had. I would kill to be able to get those shoes again.

I wore a pair of Jordan 13's for one game I played, (Last minute fill in.) and had to peel half the skin of the side of my right foot off after the game, I almost did my ankle twice during the game as well. It is commonly known in the Shoe industry how crap Nike are, people who buy/wear Nike are idiot's. Jordan is laughing at everyone, because he has the greatest con ever conceived going.

So what is Yao to do? I say switch to Converse. Gel cushioning, (React) whilst heavier is a much better form of cushioning, as I said, Asics and Brooks aren't in the Basketball shoe Market, so I believe Converse is the best he will get.

I am not talking out my butt here, I worked in Sports Retail for four years, and in that time worked closely with Converse Australia. (My boss owned half of it.)

Nikes aren't that bad and they have several reiterations... Only complaint is they too soft in the cushioning department. And that in turn can cause injuries do to instability and too much give at particular points like the heel or forefoot instead of steady balanced cushioning..

All the Nikes I've ever owned are garbage. I stopped buying them in 1998.

I play in Addidas now.

I buy cheap Nikes and put good soles in them. I've come close to hurting my ankle, but it's worth the $50 or so I save
