Why is Yao's stats down this year?

Post#1 » by YiOF » Sun Nov 23, 2008 10:59 pm

I watched last night's game against Orlando. Yao looked pretty good. He's still getting his minutes, was just wondering what people's opinion on why his stats is declining this year.

Yao is getting softer, obviously. He's not dunking the ball as often as he should. Too many missed layups; too many of his shots being blocked. He is not attacking the rim as aggressively as he should.

The NBA and the NBA charity stripe only reward aggressor. He is a decent freethrow shooter but he is not using it as an advantage. He has big body and 7'6" height, but again he is not using those as advantage.

Yao is just Yao.

Not as aggressive
Lost weight= less strength
Offense not going through him as often
Not 100%
Teams know how to defend him better

Its a combination of all of the above

LOL. Dude, Yao is a 300+ pounds big boy. With that kind of weight, running back & forth is what's dragging him down. I say Yao should go for a diet, say down to about 270 pounds.

Less weight = more strength reserved.

Remember Ralph Sampson? He could really run up & down the court like a wild horse.

If Yao does this every game, then I will pardon him:

Well you did acquire a Player who's talented both on the Offense and Defense...so you'd expect him to nab SOME of Yao's stats on both ends of the ball...plus, you guys have played a lot of tough Games so far this Year. He'll probably pick it up as the Season winds on...check back around Fed. time and see where he and the Rockets are at then.

Nobody complained when Celtics big 3 all had lower career numbers due to sharing the ball. Quite frankly Stats are great but they are even better when they are backed up by Championships. If Rockets can get a championship this year, I don't give a crap if Yao avg 10 pts, 10 rbs a game.

It is a good thing. Usually when you have a guy getting 25-15-5 stats, this is a team that is losing.

Winning team has a character that they win with many guys scoring15 points.

Why are we leading our conference when our 3 best players are not playing up to par?

well, we are not leading the conference. As far as division goes, Mavs suck with kidd, Spurs have a lot of injuries, NO losing to everyone, Memphis is Memphis.

This is not just a Yao Ming fan who care more about Yao's personal stats more than the Teams success. Before last couple good games, Yao's field goal% was down, getting blocked a lot more than usual, block and rebound numbers are down, all of these stats should not be affected much by the addition of Ron or team playing better basketball. I just wanted to know if there is something physically wrong or just a early season fluke or whatever for Yao. I acutally would expect a better than 10-5 record looking at the teams that they've played.

LeBron.

And don't counter with "well he's an exception cause he's so awesome" because only the truly awesome guys are gonna get 25-15-5. (I don't actually know of anyone that's even had that line other than maybe Wilt and Oscar)
