How good of a PG is Rafer Alston for you?

Rafer is just an average PG in my book because he doesn't do anything to help contribute to the team winning other than knocking down 3s which is also erratic and not consistent. He can't drive and do layups like Brooks does. He can't rebound like Brooks does. He's terrible when it comes to shooting while in motion. He's afraid of body contact and hardly drew foul which explain why he doesn't like to drive to the hoop. Brooks does!! Same goes with Tmac...afraid of body contact.

Rafer is the worst PG in NBA. He might also be the worst player who played more than 30 minutes a game.

His shooting is 36%.
His defense is bad and got beat by every quick and strong guards.
He does not know how to pass.
He can not drive and finish.
He can not create, even for himself.

why is this guy in NBA and being a starting PG? He must have best luck.

Whoever brought Rafer to Houston should be fired and damned.

He is the best passer we have outside of McGrady, he knows how to set up the offense, and doesn't turn the ball over exceedingly as he takes good care of it. He really isn't that bad, but he does need to cut down on shooting the ball a lot, but other then that Rafer has avearged 14.7 ppg on 47.5% from behind the arc in the last 12 games, hes shooting the 3 ball pretty well, but he shouldn't be attempted more than 6-8 shots IMO.

Rafer's low TO is the result of not creating, not driving, not drawing the defense.

I dont think we can go far with Skip starting at the point.
I think we should try to trade Alston, Head, Hayes for Hinrich. Play Kirt and AB at the point and also let Kirt play some 2 while T-Mac rest his knee for a while. Lets face it, we cant get equal value for a hurt, underperforming, 20 millon dollar player without taking bad contracts which defeats the purpose of trading in the first place. Kirt can actually play at the 2 and he wouldnt have to play there much with Van Wafer, Barry, and Artest playing some 2. This gives the Rockets the ability to rest T-Mac so he can be ready the second half of the season and the playoffs without a big dropoff. When he comes back healthy the staring lineup would be offensively and defensively solid with AB, Von Wafer, Artest, Landry, Mutombo off the bench. Rick will love to play his tight rotation with:

Hinrich/Brooks
(healthy)T-Mac/Wafer
Battier or Artest/Artest or Battier
Scola/Landry
Yao/Mt.Mutombo

Until Dorsey shows on the scene, Hayes is not as expendable as a lot of people here think. If he somehow stays in his defensive slump though...

Still, while I'm in favor of Hinrich as well, it's doubtful we increase salary like that.

I want Kirk on this team because he can do alot of the same thing AB can. He might not be as quick but he can hit the 3 on the spot up or off the dribble. He can also do a few things better than Brooks like create his own shot, play good defence, and finish at the rim.

To put this in Average Joe terms, would you throw away 5-7 grand for something for a 62 inch lcd tv if you already had a 56 inch one that worked perfectly fine?

I didnt know how close they were to the LT. I thought that they had about 1 million until they reached th LT. I know $1,369,622 is a lot of money, I was being sarcastic. But how are they throwing away 5-7 million when they would trade $8,630,378 in players saleries and receive $10,000,000 with Kirk's salery?

You lose the salary you're over times 2, plus the divided sum of all the teams who are over the tax threshold divided among all the teams that aren't. I don't know even the rough numbers, but would guess being over by a couple hundred dollars should end up costing something like at least 1.5-3 million, maybe more.

I've seen a lot of Rockets fans complaining about Rafer but everytime I watch him he's knocking down shots, making some good passes and playing solid defense. He's obviously not a great playmaker but I've see PGs a lot worse than him.

He's good enough when we don't have anyone better. But fortunately for us we have someone better this year.
