Question for the Rockets fans

Post#1 » by tombattor » Tue Jan 13, 2009 4:30 pm

I'm not trying to troll, just have a legit question about the Rockets. I am a Celtics fan, but I've adopted Rockets as one of my favorite teams. I originally loved the potential of Stevie Franchise/Yao combo and with the NBA League Pass, started watching the Rockets almost every game.

Today, I see a very good Rockets team that has all the talent to take that next step (get to 2nd round and beyond), but I can't help but question whether T-Mac can really help them get there. Initially, I thought this was a great trade for the Rockets (Francis-T-Mac), but as usual, T-Mac's been hurt often and when he does get back in the lineup, he seems to be very inconsistent. He'll have a game where he pretty much carries them and follow that up with 2 games in which he shoots 5-20. Also, I know that he's been doing a lot more of passing of late, but I still sometimes feel like the ball sticks to him and often, I see the rest of the team standing around while watching T-Mac do his thing.

So here is the question. Are the Rockets better off without T-Mac? Has there been any talks about trading him while there still is some value? And if they knew they were going to be without T-Mac, maybe the rest of the team can take on a stronger offensive role. Maybe they can trade T-Mac for a real PG, not Alston, to help run the offense. I don't know what the answer is and I was hoping some of you guys can shed some light on how the Rockets' fan base thought about the situation.

Thanks

No value trading Tracy.. We are better not trading him.

Once he has taking his rest, and when he comes back, as healthy as he will get, you will see a better Rockets team. Our team has not had much time to practice, and when we have we did not have all of our players. If our players move around while he has the ball, it will make our offense so much better because he is a good passer, then he can penetrate and dish.

No clue if I answered your question, but I just went into my own little world.

- It's still been a great trade. We weren't going to go anywhere with Francis, and our play was rather pathetic most of the time. McGrady has provided a much more entertaining team, even if it hasn't won anything, and only financially strapped us a year or two longer than Francis/Mobley would have done.
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?

As you probably know alot of HOU fans says trade him for random players (even with these trades still wouldnt get use a ring). Others say things like they would trade him for a bag of chips and a hustler magizine, but I havnt heard of any legit info about him being traded. Like H-town said we have been an injured team, even before the season started. Our best bet is to let him rest so he can be ready for the second half of the season and playoffs(hopefully), instead of trading him for mediocre players on bad contracts.

Are we better off without TMac? probably not. But are we better off with Redd or RIP than TMac? Hell Yeah!

No, only player that can fill the role of McGrady that can be somewhat attainable is Joe Johnson. Redd is one dimensional, and even he sucks at what he does best. No reason to trade him unless we get good enough value for him, because his value on the current Rockets team is pretty big. Btw, Rockets have 30% winning percentage without him; when Yao and McGrady play at the same time, the Rockets win 70% of their games...no reason to trade him for crap. Also if the Francis/McGrady deal didn't go through, the Rockets would be fighting for playoff spots, with T-Mac, you're a championship contender...with health circumstances included of course. Give this team about a month, or at least the start of February, they were in a much worse situation last year, and the year before, I'm sure they can turn it around.

Thanks for your answers. I guess there really is no easy answer. I don't think Joe Johnson is attainable. He is the core of the Hawks who are on their way up. Joe Johnson is already exponentially better than T-Mac, younger and doesn't have the same injury problems.
