Due to his injuries, Yao was not named to the Chinese National Team for this summer, meaning that our Big Fella is going to get to experience an entire off-season of rest & recuperation for the first time since he's gotten here!
This is great news for The Rockets and Yao, and I hope that the time off is beneficial.

Good , it's amazing to think that they would have played him if he wasn't injured.

doesnt mean ****. he's had a free offseaon before. injury proner, maybe he can replace his legs w/ robotic legs, that way he can play forever.

Re: Yao's First ever Off-season!
His legs are already damaged from wear and tear, even his former coach said so. I dont know why Yao having a summer off should be exciting. Sorry for not being optimistic but to build around a player who tends be out for the playoffs is not something most rockets fans are comfortable with. If Yao had some bad luck it would be one thing, but most of the time his injuries are just from his legs having to carry around his gigantic size.
As said unless hes having robotic legs surgically attached to hsi body im not confident that Yao will be reliable, same thing with Tracy

its simple play him 25-28 mintues a game... and tell him to score when he has the ball...
I bet he will have better numbers than he does this year...
most times when Yao plays... he spends about 10 or 15 minutes of those 36 minutes running up and down the court... without getting the ball anyways

Yao is great, we all love him, but he is too fragile to be the fundamental one in a franchise. However, great news.

Yao has been spending time with the Chinese NAtional team for a while now. Now that he's retired from international basketbal, he won't have that commitment and can actually live his life.

Lets not get too carried away with his injuries. If the Rockets do the following
-Play Yao a Max of 65-70 games a season
-Fix his rotation minutes (the 2 whole quarters 1st and 3rd is (Please Use More Appropriate Word)), 8 minute rotations = 32 minutes. Not 13 minutes 1st and 2nd and than 5-6 minutes @ the end, repeat for 2nd half.
-Get a C who is not 42 years old(saving him for the playoffs), as much as i love Deke.
-Stop the picks (he sets way too many picks which result in nothing)
-develop a mid-range J for some easy shots to combat fronting
-Pray if he does get injured and its minor (2 months), he gets injured early in the season.
-If he is injured no more macho guy, tell somebody and fking sit, the last injury is all his fault when he hurt in the 2nd quarter, he should of sit not force himself to play 18-20 more minutes.
-Get a good off season (which he will have now)
As of right now, its a bummer, but he did last through 1st round of the playoffs + 3 games. Its not like he play less games this season....he played more. So I am keeping it positive.
However if the Rockets do all the above and he gets this off season and he gets another injury in the same foot. Than we got 2010 off season to really think what the Rockets want to do.
I can live with 1 more year.
No I don't remember him having an off season rest, from what I understand he didn't play in every Asian Game, but he did play 7-8 games a year for the National Team. However he did have to train with the team and their training is primitive vs USA training.

there was one, i forgot but i think he was rehabbing an injury he got in the nba that offseason, and thats why he couldnt play the china games. of corse he's always rehabbing somethign nowadays...it was either the 05/06 or 06/07 season. if not then there was one off season where he didnt play international games. good he's doing it again.
if houston keeps yao, ima have to assume a normal offseason for yao will make him a lot better than anyone thought in the regular season. in the 05/06 season before he went down he was straight beasting, prolly that offsason he didnt play.
