Funniest thing in the NBA
When a team, say the Hawks, signs a guy to a major contract, which even at the time is obviously a NIGHTMARE of overpayment, then within a year or two wants to trade him, I smile inside.
Quick list of recent WTFWEREYOUTHINKINGs:
Josh Smith
Baron Davis
Zach Randolph
Monta Ellis
Gilbert Arenas
Corey Maggette
Andrei Kirilenko
Then, when it's obvious to EVERYONE that the GM that signed him made a mistake and he announces his strong desire to trade him (mistake #2), the chorus of OH WOW WE COULD GET HIM??'s start up on message boards everywhere and my teeth grind until I need dental work.
Can I charge that to winterpeg by any chance?

I think we should trade Tracy Mcgrady for Kevin Garnett.

I know, right? I find it very stupid of teams (especially the crappy ones) to sign anyone to a huge contract! Can one person really make atl, Mem, OKC, NJN, etc (and the list is long) that much better? Other than lebron, maybe kobe, you throw any other player in the league onto those teams and they still won't make the playoffs consistently or be a serious contender.

I love the delirium/randomness of Realgm right now. People just get an idea in their head and just go post it in a random thread without reading/comprehending thread title/context.
But anyways, I need help......My dog has just been diagnosed with testicular cancer. Should he go through chemo or surgery? They say chemo will kill mainly the cancer cells and leave him some function of his testicles vs. surgery which will prevent reocurrance but will decrease his energy/playfulness. =/ I know it's not happening to me, but imagine your child having to go through it....breaks my heart and I'm trying my best to decide on the lesser evil.....

Damn, Pocket, that sucks. If it were my pet, I'd have him neutered. Think of it like this:
If you have him neutered, sure he loses his boys, but he won't have any more lingering health effects.
If you have him go through chemo, he will have to deal with the effects that it has on all of his body.
You're looking at days versus weeks / months of recovery. Plus, he's almost guaranteed a full recovery with neutering, while chemo is a crap shoot.
Also, neutering is a whole lot cheaper.

(I've been actively trying to post a lot of threads here because no one was posting anything for 2-3 weeks, but yes this wasn't the best titled thread, nor really worthy of being a thread in and of itself. Stop calling me on everything, I normally prefer to not create many threads!

Also, agreed with Jove.

HAHA Moofs....we're cool man. I actually enjoy your posts. I was referring to someone that posted we should trade Tmac/Yao. In a way you could fit it into the context of your OPost, but it's a stretch.
Thanks for the advice guys. I was also thinking that him losing some of his mojo would be better than the chemo killing some other part of him. I just don't like the thought of neutering/spading pets. I know the pros/cons but how would we like it if it was done to us?
The draft is almost here and I'm sure Morey will give us something to talk/complain about....so a dead/random board isn't all that bad. =)

Re: Funniest thing in the NBA
actually the clippers signed josh smith to an offer sheet that atl had to match.
the clippers are doing good financially, they can deal with the luxury tax i guess... but atlanta panicked and would be screwed bad if they had lost jsmoove for nothing. i think they can move him easily... he's like 23 or something

Nah, I know. You weren't even the guy that called me on whatever it was in the other post, I just thought it was funny

If it was our lot in life to be wholeheartedly empathetic to animals, and this had been applied consistently through history, it's a certainty that you wouldn't be dealing with your current situation (neither on a computer, nor with the medicines that are now available to deal with it). Taking care of them is good, possibly admirable, and definitely rewarding, but trying to set yourself in their boat like you'd do with people is past the requisite line, imo. Just imagine what the world would be like if all people tried to prevent all animals from dying/pain/discomfort with the same zealous fervor we do it with ourselves. I know my mother spent over $4,000 in 2 years keeping a bird (cockatiel) healthy. I really liked that bird, he was awesome, but ... what? I guess I'd have spent a few hundred on him, and other people could post that same opinion at me, and also that's essentially what she did (just over and over and over again), but... I dunno. Obviously, it's your call. Just trying to help save you some grief, cause with your current outlook it's coming one way or the other.

That makes sense, and I'd forgotten about the offer sheet. Thanks for the reminder!

Well, with that attitude all the animals or anything that's not human would be extinct.....oh wait.
A lot of animals are extinct or are pushed to the brink b/c of people not caring or looking to get a buck. Not saying dogs are gonna become extinct, just saying that some people value ALL life. We all know the history lessons and it doesn't hurt to learn from them.
I'm sure you mother is great person. Selflessness is hard to find now-a-days.

She is

The laws of economics still apply for animals, as well. If hunting deer was illegal, deer would die anyway as their populations grew to unsustainable sizes and they proceeded to die en masse of starvation until equilibrium was once again met. Then again, hunting deer is killing animals. Both populations can benefit from hunting, but if you empathize with the deer, the killing becomes wrong, as you're killing another living creature. Have no doubt though, they will die either way. That example is off from your situation, which is surgery/finance/ethics instead of food/supply/ethics, but it's still a matter of ideals of animal treatment vs. that certain things are just bottom-line fact, and how to reconcile the two. You can't change that one way he will undergo lots of pain (I'm really not sure that chemo is truly effective, nor that it's not tantamount to inadvertent, mistaken torture of the "Steve Martin's Barbershop of Medical Bloodletting" degree) at lots of financial cost, and the other he will have a "minor" surgery at relatively low cost, but lose his boys.
Also, the internets, where "Atlanta Hawks Bad Contracts morphs to Animal Rights" happens.
