I have this weird hunch he's going to get grossly overpaid.

you have to consider he is playing behind Dwight Howard => not much playing time for him. Magics will be hard pressed to keep him. Some team will use their FULL MLE to get him. Spurs maybe one of those team.

Bucks already moved Oberto to Detroit for Amir Johnson.
Miller seems most logical for Wash to move.(If Dallas was smart they'd be on the phone w/Stackhouse and Antoine Wright for Miller. Stack's deal has only $2mil guaranteed,so over $5mill in savings.)

On second thoughts, Spurs may not have the cap room to sign Gortat to a full MLE...

RJ is overpaid and over-rated. But he is a decent player and will help Spurs. The issue is Spurs gave up lots of front court & backup strength and Duncan is not young to play heavy minutes every game. Who is going to get those rebounds? If Duncan goes down, the lack of front court and backup helps will derail them from their goal. Spurs can still address their front court weakness from the draft/FA market but as someone has pointed out, Spurs now have 4 players tied up with salary around $59.7 million for the 2009/2010 season. Add in other contracted players like Mason, Bonner and Hill, the total salary will hit $67.8 million. With the luxury tax threshold for next season will be lowering to around $70 million level, Spurs have only $2 million left for the other 6-7 players before paying luxury taxes.

so many jefferson haters.

this is a VERY GOOD DEAL FOR SAN ANTONIO!!! their offense is set for next season w/ this move. all they have to do now is find more bigs. gooden is capable of playing 20/25 min, he should be doing that but their rotation was too deep. bonner can log 15/20 min.

they're gonna have to look for 4/5 players, but thats basically it. jefferson is a baller, not a good 1/2 option, but perfect 3/4 option. now they have a big 4 w/ jefferson. i say 'go spurs go' on this deal.

they will prolly be a more liked team now that bruce bowen is off the team.

Seem you did not read my post on Spurs' salaries situation for 2009/2010 season. Spurs has not been paying luxury taxes in recent seasons. The previous time they paid luxury taxes is around $400K. not much. With only arond $2 million left before hitting the luxury tax threshold, it will be difficult for Spurs to sign up good helps (maybe bowen if bucks buy him off and sign with Spurs on minimum deal). Gooden is a FA and will want more than just $2 million a year. Interesting to see how Spurs GM does in such situation.

sucks for spurs that they have a tight salary to work with, but all they need is one more big to deal w/ the frontcourt issues. need more than 1 big, but if they can get one big they are good for next season, and only next season.

i dunno how they're gonna do it, but i would bet they will start the season w/ at least one more frontcrout player.

if one of them gets injured, jefferson/finley/someone will have to play the undersized pf role, lmao.

It's worse for Spurs as Finlay has option that he will undoubtably take, adding another $2.5 to the payroll. They trade away this yr's First. They're over $71mil in payroll w/only 9 players under contract.
Splitter is the Euro they had high hopes for(and part of reason they gave up on Scola),but he signed a deal in Europe that has crazy-high buyouts for another yr or two.
If it was anybody but the Spurs I'd think Ginobili was on the trading block.(I could even see a possible GS deal w/Biedrins-his BYC ends July 1-and Belinelli and a future First.)
They've got to have something else firmed up,else the rest of their roster is going to be vet min guys.

And if I'm Minn I offer the #5,#18,Etan Thomas for the #2,Marko Jaric. The pitch to Grizz is the little more Thomas'salary is is more than balanced by diff between #2 and #5,you can draft Hill who could be the PF you're looking for,you move up 9 spots on your other First and can now easily sell it for cash and you lose the 2010 Jaric salary.

Good deal for the Spurs. This propels em back to #2 in the West...and makes us definitely have to keep Artest to compete.
