OT - The NJ Nets and Eminent Domain

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Tue Nov 24, 2009 8:48 pm

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/1257 ... nets-arena

A big hurdle has been cleared in the Nets quest to relocate to Brooklyn.

I have to admit, I am not a fan of the practice of eminent domain. I understand the community benefits that could come with a project the size of a new Arena; but I firmly and absolutely believe that the government has no right to force property owners off of their land unwillingly. It just flies in the face of everything I believe in.

These people don't want to sell...so to me instead of the courts forcing them then the Nets should just keep upping their offers. Surely at some point even the most stubborn homeowner there could be swayed by the law firm of Cha, Ching & Cash.

Anyway, just thought that I'd bring it up. Pretty bored today.

E, you're forgetting that it's cheaper to pay off 1 judge and 1 lawyer than 800 property owners.

C'mon man, we learned all this from Chicago in like 1920. ;)

(Seriously, I hate eminent domain, too - not to mention, where does it come into play claiming land for a STADIUM for a PRIVATE BUSINESS OWNER, not even a government project or at least it freaking shouldn't be anyway...)
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor
