Jazz Rockets Trade Idea

Post#1 » by finnegan » Thu Dec 31, 2009 1:10 am

Outgoing Players
Tracy McGrady
Shane Battier

Incoming Players
Andrei Kirilenko
Paul Millsap
Kyle Korver

This is probably giving up too much by the Jazz, but Houston gets the young potential star which they are looking for in Millsap. Not to mention that Milsap is a defensive minded big, and bigs are inherently worth more than wings.

But Utah might do it if:

1) Jazz want to win now,
2) McGrady is unquestionably healthy, and there is no scam going on where is knee is just a few leaps away from retirement,
3) Jazz know that they can resign Boozer and McGrady for reasonable contracts to be on a championship caliber team together.

What do ROX fanss think of Milsap? Does he fit the "potential star" category being sought? (Portland was pretty high on him)

I am the biggest Battier Homer on RealGM and I am one of, if not the first, to jump into any trade proposal where the big draw is a Power Forward, pointing out that it is Houston's position of strength.

That said, all that I ask is that you include a box of kleenex in the deal so that I can wipe away my (manly) tears as I personally drive Shane Battier out of town for this deal.

I'd be thrilled to get a guy like Paul Millsap, but I can't understand why Utah would give him up. He is the better option of the Millsap/Boozer discussion.

Korver being included would give the Rockets enough room to extend Lowry; but they may lose out on Luis Scola because of this deal. I would not like losing Luis, but a Landry/Millsap combo at PF for the next few years would be nice!

Not a chance from Houston's end, possibly not even if you included the Knicks pick.

Houston has no need for any of those players, particularly at the ludicrous prices they command with their contracts.

Houston probably wouldn't be willing to send straight expirings for that package, let alone add Battier. Plus, I think the Rockets value Tmac slightly more than "straight expirings" anyway.

Ultimately...how does this make the Rockets better, at all? It certainly kills any chance at future cap space, I'll give you that.

battier is the best defender on kobe this decade, btw. needs big man in the paint to do that but he's had that big man until this year. milsap would make a logjam at the 4/5. id rather not have ak but dont mind him, man defense is no where near shanes.

id rather not trade with utah unless we get their players and send them to another team to get bosh/wade/bron/kobe/duncan/dwight/rasho/etc

While I realize none of these teams are one's I truly root for I came up with this deal yesterday and thought I would bounce it around to see what everyone thought.

Houston Trades: McGrady & Scola
Houston Recieves: Jamison & Kirilenko

Utah Trades: Boozer & Kirilenko
Utah Recieves: McGrady & Scola

Washington Trades: Jamison
Washington Recieves: Boozer

I'm sure somebody will hate it but being an outsider and not a fan of any of these teams it seems like it would be a good deal for everyone. Houston gets rid of T-Mac and picks up a solid player and good team guy in Jamison and Kirilenko isn't to bad either.

Utah gets T-Mac which may or may not turn into a good player but if not at least they have the expiring going for them while picking up Scola.

Washington gets a good post player while saving money from Jamison's deal.

All right that's all I got ...

It's not a horrible trade, but I don't see it making us better, either. Like Max said, what are we going to do with 3 6'9" PFs? Play Milsap at backup C?

Some things to consider:
1. Milsap can replace Scola (or Landry, but likely Scola, whose contract is up this year) His contract drops into reasonable territory after this year, and Scola will be 30 soon.
2. Wanting to take on Kirilenko's 4 years younger legs, reduced defensive presence, and horrible next-year contract price in favor of Battier, and in hopes of signing him to a reasonable 2-4 year contract after that
3. Being able to tolerate Kirilenko's douchiness in comparison to Battier's thorough awesomeness.
4. Plenty of kleenexes in the locker room for Korver and Kirilenko
5. Mr. E accepts that I am the biggest Battier homer here, and will always offer proof of being the ONLY person standing and cheering at the draft party amid a sea of seated boos when we acquired him (imagine wearing a UH jersey to an LSU home game) and having openly wished we had him for years before that.
6. Our salary schedule jumps from $30,103,761 $7,354,500 to $31,906,365 $24,022,187 $6,700,000 $7,200,000 without seemingly making us a championship contender. Do Les or Morey like this?

My only guesses for the Jazz wanting to do it are:
1. Cut salary
2. They really want to get rid of Kirilenko and Korver and are willing to offer Milsap's mostly (after this year) decent contract to do it
3. Kirilenko really is a bit of a douchebag, but not nearly as much as Boozer or Okur.

Almost considered the trade from the Mavs fan for a second, until I realized we took on 2 bad contracts instead of one. (Jamison's already 33 and signed for 11-15m/yr for 2 more years after this one, and doesn't play defense)
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
