Rockets Only Awards

Post#1 » by czarleon09 » Thu Apr 15, 2010 5:34 pm

With the season over I think its time to start handing out the Rockets Only Awards

MVP: Aaron Brooks
MIP: Aaron Brooks (almost doubled both his assists and points per game)
D-POY: Chuck Hayes (like Battier said "Three-fourths of the world is covered by water. The rest is covered by Chuck Hayes")
Biggest Surprise: How much Daryl Morey can get from other teams
Biggest Disapointment: Trevor Ariza (he played good but I was hoping for much more)
Most Memorable Moment: Dirk Nowitzki elbowing Carl Landry in the teeth and Mark Cuban complaining and wanting a do over

Feel free to make up any awards you want.

Ice Cream Man is the most inventive nickname I've heard in years.

Just wish Matt and Clyde would stop asking Bill after EVERY bucket "Hey Bill, was that one scoop or two?" "Oh I think it was a three-scooper! HA HA HA"
Morey 2020.

I'll take that as a complement (and was wondering how long it'd take someone to mention that).

BECAUSE

It's intended to be a constant reminder of just how F*#&(ING GAY the Mavs are.
If someone got me a similar picture of the Jazz, I'd pee myself.

Nice to know it succeeds.
Morey 2020.

MVP: Scola (his contributions are consistent)
MIP: Aaron Brooks (No need to say more)
D-POY: A tie between Hayes (Not need to say more) and Battier (His blks were awesome)
Biggest Surprise: Lowry's importance to the team in the midst of the season (Morey's fleecing of other team is no longer a surprise. If Morey is on the wrong side of the deal, that would be a surprise)
Biggest Disapointment: I wanted to say it was McGrady's nonsense (but it has been like that for some time already) but i would say this award belongs to seeing Mandry leaving the Rockets. Ariza was leading this award until he finally kinda showed up in the latter part of the season.
Most Memorable Moment: Aaron Brooks scoring a career high and those 3-pt records he rewrote.
Most Useless player (We all should have a piece of his salary): Brian Cook (Glad to see him off), Hilton Armstrong (Since Cook is gone, the award shd go to him)
SPTY: It's tie between Martin and Anderson... I'm giving it to Anderson.

When are we having our own awards?

I don't disagree on the "Kevin Martin is soft" label, but I'm curious as to what reasoning people have for thinking that. Is it because he gets hurt so much, his lack of defense, or just his style of play in general?

He is pretty great at drawing fouls consistently and getting to the line, which is what I love about his game and it is refreshing as opposed to seeing him just jack up bad shots all night and never try to take it to the basket(sound familiar?). The guy tries to pump-fake too much from what I have seen, but at least he tries to draw contact consistently and I love that. I wouldn't quite put him in the same category as Anderson personally.

I have to say Lowry and Scola have become my two favorite Rockets by far(with an obvious honorable mention to Suga Shane and Truck Hayes who are both amazing). I love the way those guys play and will be extremely disappointed if they are not in a Rockets uniform next year.

I can't wait to see how Hill continues to develop and how this team will look with a healthy(lol) Yao in the middle. This summer should be interesting and the potential for next season already has me excited.

Oh, and moofs, of course it was a compliment. That avatar is nothing short of amazing, and I have been wanting to comment on it for a while but for whatever reason never have.

It's his sissy defense that pisses everybody off. The guy literally just feigns interest.

My MVP would be Scola. MIP would be LANDRY (even if he's on the Kings).

Well it's simple. We turn on our televisions to a Rockets' game and we watch Martin play. I'll be honest, I actually like the guy. He's a beast on offense. As you said, he gets to the line a lot plus he's got a good jumper. If you watch him on defense, you'll see a guy who doesn't seem to care. He's the kind of guy Jeff Van Gundy would be cussing out in the locker room.

Martin reminds me of the kind of guy you played 1 on 1 against growing up who was better than you and wouldn't guard you. He would just wait for you to miss and then score all over you.

Kevin Martin definitely isn't soft offensively. He's constantly getting to the line and sacrificing his body. Defense is a different story though.

Not for the Rockets.

He rarely ever drove to the basket. He got to the line because of his pumpfakes.

I think he just needed time to get his confidence back and to get acclimated to the system. He's definitely not a soft offensively and I'm sure most Kings fans would agree with me. It pisses me off when I see him taking all of those jump shots because that's not his game. He's at his best when he's playing aggressive and getting to the rim.

Any chance you could photoshop Martin into Dwight Howard's body?

I could try but it might be hard because Dwight is a lot darker than Martin. It works better for guys with similar complexion.

Corey Maggette?

If you just want to see Martin bigger I could easily do that w/o photoshopping him into someone else's body. I just photoshopped him into Howard and it looks kind of weird. I'll show you both.

It looks kind of weird mainly because I couldn't find pics of them looking in the same direction.

I also made Brandon Roy skinny.
