I can't figure out why Camby hasn't really had a serious dropoff yet. The dude was a walking injury for the first 2/3 of his career, then suddenly gets healthy and more productive when he's an old fart?

The press would have a field day with this one if Camby was in MLB.
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor

Camby would cost more though

I think he'll cost atleast two times more.

I have no problem with the idea.

He'll definitely struggle against mobile bigs that Chuck wouldn't struggle with. Brad is one of the least athletic players in the NBA and he's often frustrating to watch because he can't convert around the rim. The only two things he could do are shoot and pass. He would fit into Adelman's system on the offensive end, but I think he'll be more detrimental to the team than beneficial. This team needs an Anderson Varejao type player backing up the pf and center position imo.

Of course, but aside from Marcus Camby which Varejao-type player is available? I'd be all for Camby if he wants to come here for the veteran's minimum, but I think he'd cost a lot more. Plus, with our inflexible cap guys like Varejao will cost an arm and a leg, and a trade means we'll have to break up our bench. I just don't see us trading for a backup big man.

Brad Miller isn't perfect, but he's one of the cheaper options available. He already understands Adelman's system and had great success so he'll take no time making the adjustment. We both agree that his offense won't be a problem, so let's talk about his defense. He's a great rebounder, so the only concern is his quickness. I'm not too worried about his defense because like you said, we already have Chuck Hayes to cover those quick athletes. With Brad Miller we'll just have another body to throw at the Tim Duncans or the Andrew Bynums, those that play with their backs to the basket.

Overall, I think Miller will do more good than bad.

It's incredible. I guess you have to credit his great work ethic.

The guy averages over 10 boards with 2 blocks in just over 30 minutes with a usage rate of only 13%. Talk about a great off-ball player.

What about Haslem? I know that he is undersized as well, but I would take him over Hayes and Brad Miller.

He definitely can help in defense, amongst other things. But the guy has some anger issues. LOL he almost took king James head off. I hope Shaqfu smacks him upside his head again.

It's like this, if Brad Miller can come in and be the best backup center in the NBA then it's a good signing. If he comes to Houston, Yao goes down, and he becomes the starting center then the Rockets will become a mediocre team playing for the 8th seed, and Miller becomes a waste of money.

Numbers,people,numbers.
15 man roster.
Smalls:
Ariza,Battier,Budinger
Martin,Taylor
Brooks,Lowry(or replacement)
That's 7,and very thin at the PG spot.
Rocket bigs:
Yao
Hill,Andersen,Jeffries
Scola(RFA),Hayes(team option)
Assuming the team drafts a big like expected and signs Scola that makes 6 bigs.
That's 13 players. If the team signs Miller, that's 14 and if they also keep Hayes, that's 15. No roster room for an injury or a trade-ie if Brooks sprained his ankle and was going to miss 3 games, there's nothing the Rockets could do.
As is,it would be either Miller OR Hayes, not both.

If that's the case, then use the money that we DON'T use to pick up the option on Hayes, and use the money we'd spend on Miller, combine them and get Camby in here!

I agree... IMO that would be ideal, but if we can't get Camby I am all for signing Miller.

I like it. It would definable be a cheaper alternative to say Marcus Camby. I guess we would be giving up on the Aussie if we pursue Miller.

Wow kiddfresh still alive? Why are we pursuing his when he's already a grandfather? not when he was a decent player 2-4 years ago? Don't we got enough of the mark jacksons and brent and jon barry's? Go young and develop..yao is not gonna last and another grandpa center won't help him much.

The Portland Trail Blazers are closing in on securing a contract extension for Marcus Camby, according to sources with knowledge of the talks.

Sources said Monday that the two sides had already been negotiating toward a new deal that would keep Camby off the free-agent market this summer.

One source said that the looming deal is likely span two years in excess of $20 million.

What an expansive contract extension. They must really like him.

Holly crap, that gives them three legitimate centers at that position, but I guess since they all get hurt, it isn't that bad of an idea. 10 million a year for 2 years is a bad deal no doubt, but I guess according to his production throughout the past couple of years, he still produces over 11 boards a game, blocks 2 shots, and although he's not a scorer, he's a solid defender even at this age, so I guess it doesn't seem too absurd when you go by the numbers, but that's still a lot, I guess for someone like Camby who's 36 years old.

The Blazers set the market value quite high, we may have to end up overpaying for Scola

The Blazers are (Please Use More Appropriate Word) for giving him that much. I'm glad that the Knicks are interested in Brad because I don't want him in Houston.

If Haywood is willing to come off the bench, Rockets should jump all over him.
