i said shotblocking center taller than 6'10"
hill is 6'10" not taller and his shotblocking ability is so-so
235lbs? don't trust that, that's his rookie weight

assuming yao stays healthy, plays 25mpg till at least all star break, opposing team has half the game w/ no yao to worry about, wat do we do about that? play hill at center? maybe, i doubt it'll work, even if he puts on weight. he'll be able to score and rebound well enough, but will he be exposed defensively at the center position? from what he's shown, he's not bad at defense but most of his games he's scoring and rebounding. rockets werent looking to lock teams down anyway so didnt need to go all out on defense. he has long enough arms thats for sure, but can he use them on the defensive end playing center?

of corse, he'll get better, maybe can be above average on defense, and even better on offense. if morey trusts in hill to develop his game in the offseason and become a capable backup center, then i'll go w/ it.

if yao goes down again, or if morey doesnt think yao will be good enough to help make the team a contender, then i dont care who plays what, build for the future, get chemistry going, w/e

Of course, the most important thing for this team for the next couple seasons may be to hope that the Knicks absolutely & utterly suck so as to make the Martin/Hill/Jeffries trade it's most valuable.

I'm thinking now that if Morey does look to improve via sign & trade that it may not happen until after several dominoes have fallen. That NY 2012 pick and the 2011 pick swap will be much more valuable trade pieces if the Knicks strike out in free agency this offseason.

The chances of Yao remaining healthy and pulling off an Ilgauskas is just as about as good as the Knicks
becoming competitive again next season. It remains to be seen, and it'll be interesting to see how next season will turn out. But definitely prepare and have a possible successor or replacement.

if yao goes down then OBVIOUSLY he is not someone to build your team around, i dont like his chances of staying healthy but w/e, only way this team can contend is to build around him, if it dont work then we have a lotta money to spend in 2011, resign him for the minimum tho, brings a lotta $$$ from china

Heh. Rox. How does this subject still come up, either? Think about it.

If Yao is not the guy to build around, these things have to be handled by bringing in the player
1 they need to bring as much revenue to the team as Yao does (not possible, sans LBJ)
2 they to be roughly as good as Yao, if not better
3 on average (injuries can happen to any player at any time) they need to be healthier than Yao

Given 2 and 3, and magnified by the fact that 1 won't be met, we would have to give up a LOT for the sake of winning now (which is NOT the most important thing to GMs of good teams). By a LOT, I mean, to match 2, we'd likely have to give up more due to 3 unless we're somehow able to sell that we're giving up more on 1. If we're giving up 1, why is the trade done? You really think Alexander prefers to win over making money? If we're not giving up 1, then we're giving up more due to 3.

Let's try putting this in terms of you: if Yao stays, you can collect your regular salary, but if Yao goes, not only is your regular salary gone, but you now owe a debt of 25k per year (bear in mind that you have no income, and will owe interest on that debt). You're perfectly permitted to make ANY trade that will accomplish making the Rockets more likely to win a championship within these parameters. Build away.

(Somehow, I'm skeptical that Yao signs for the minimum under any circumstances, nor that the Rockets would attempt to offer him that.)

As fans, we're stuck with Yao, and that's really not a bad thing. Live with it, and be thankful that we don't have Eddy Curry signed to the max like some poor schmucks.
Morey 2020.

sry im too lazy to use my brain on ur post, just had a workout...but wat im sayin is if yao can be a 20/10 guy, we should give it one last chance to build around him. this and next year. if he can only be a 25mpg player, then i dont care wat happens. resign him, let him go somewhere else, w/e, either way is good for us. he'd make for one helluva backup center, just like jermaine oneal the poor prick

Yao is more of 19/9 guy, he can't play too much to record 20/10 (about 30 mpg will be perfect).

I bet you could get Bosh and Jarret Jack for next to nothing from the Raptors. All depends if you guys want to give him that much money. I've never checked to see how you guys feel about Bosh but i think alot of ppl see Houston as his potentially favorite destination. Then you could trade somebody for Thabeet and you're good to go for bigs. I mean no harm, don't get me wrong. Are you guys more inclined to save a few bucks and take the services of Scola again next year?

Do you guys think that Houston would offer Yao for Bosh?
