Michael Beasley
All, this is my first post, so I apologize if this is a repeat. If Miami needs to gut their roster this offseason, do you think that we could be in the running for Beasley? I keep reading that the Heat are looking for takers. After the playoffs, I'm sure people think of him as a cancer on the team but maybe Houston would provide a good change of scenery for him. It may be a subtraction by addition, but I think his instant offense would really help the Rockets when we go through one of our 5 minute offensive droughts (may not be the case with Yao back). His defense and rebounding are suspect but he could be really effective spacing the floor with his shooting and his ability to score. If we can nab him, we should make a rule for him to only play when Battier is on the court.

Re: Michael Beasley
only way i'd want beasley is if we trade for wade. we need a 2nd all star, so having beasley isnt gonna help us w/ that. and we have more than enough offense, specially at the 4

Re: Michael Beasley
Beasley is not fit for this team. He is unprofessional, immature, and lacks the hustle mentality that the Rockets have established. We already have enough prospects of our own anyway.

I don't know if I'd like Beasley on the Rockets. He's a scorer and the Rockets already have enough of that.

On the plus side, he's already spent time in Houston. Granted, it was for inpatient psychiatric care...
So he's got that going for him.

Re: Michael Beasley
Beasley is an undersized PF and not really needed by Rockets.
Rockets already have a good undersized PF/C (Chuck), a promising draft pick (Patterson is bigger than Beasley), J.Hill (bigger than Beasley and can play backup C), Scola (much better than Beasley in every way).
If Maimi Heats want Andersen/J.Jeffries for Beasley, then maybe but doubt Heats want Andersen/J.Jeffries.

Re: Michael Beasley
You know what Beasley needs? A decent defensive coach.
Once he figures out defense, the sky is the limit for that kid. I've seen him play at the AAU level, in college and in the pros. There is not a single offensive move within 22 feet that this kid cannot do. He has range, he has lateral quickness, he can jump... I don't think he's actually cursed with ColemanGlenn Robinson's "I Don't Give A FSCK" attitude either. There is a sort of weariness in that guy's body language that all the other stars do not have. I think a lack of passion is the culprit. There is a difference between hard work and passion. I think the kid works pretty hard, he loses or gains weight by command from Riley to adjust to new positions. I don't think he's uncoachable either, but Spolestra is not that great a coach, so I have difficulty concluding if it's the student or the teacher here.
The troubling sign to me is that he has been teammates with Haslem, who is the type of consummate pro that Beasley needs to emulate. Either Haslem is not teaching fearing that Beas will take his spot the minute he gets it, or that Beasley is simply not getting it. But with Hayes and Battier moving to the second string, perhaps they could be more accommodating.
At this point, I do think Miami's locker room and culture isn't the most nurturing to begin with, and Beasley to Houston would be a good career move for him. I don't see him locked into the 4, since he has excellent ball handling capabilities and can shoot long. Right now, if he gets off the bench at the eighth spot behind Battier and Lowry, we would be extremely set.
I don't think he's our best fit right now, but if I'm going to be paying Andersen's rookie contract, I might as well pay for Beas and get so much more for a slight increase in cash. Do I need Hill _and_ Patterson? Where does Jeffries fit in all of this? He's like a 6-10 small forward as well, whom can't score and somehow gets away with playing defense with his hands. How about Alexander Johnson? He was a monster in the D-League, but how many third stringers do we need?
There is also Miami having money to sign 3 max free agents if they get rid of Beas, and we'd be doing them a big favor by taking the contract. I wonder if that's why no one is actually biting.

Re: Michael Beasley
Andersen + Hayes would be a no brainer and Miami would be happy to take it. Beasley can play ball, no doubt about it, and his value will certainly rise in the season. His number are similar to Landrys, and he like Landry is still very young. He would be a nice scoring addition off the bench.
We should slot him up behind Scola / Bosh or whoever is our starter.

Beasley's salary this coming season is $5 million. Andersen is $2.5 million. Half of Beasley's. $5 million for a 8th rotation player? Not that Andersen is comparable to Beasley but it make sense for a 8th rotation player to earn $2.5 rather than $5 million. J.J is a by product from Tmac trade and Rockets do not purposely go to get J.J. Beasley's personal issue and salary is putting other teams off.

Heats are selling Beasley cheap for the cap room. They do not want player back but Rockets are over the cap and have to send some player back.
You would want Harrington? MLE for Harrington? He is anti-rocket type of player. You might as well keep Andersen.

Re: Michael Beasley
Yeah the more I think about it the less I would like Harrington on our team. I do like how he can play multiple positions though. I do really like Barnes defense and 3 point shooting on a team with Bosh/Yao/Paul though. I really just like Beasley for the low risk - high reward possibilities. Right now you can get him for very cheap and his value can do nothing but get better. I am not sure who you could plug in at SF, in the lineup I had created other than Harrington though.
What about NO BOSH...
YAO/MILLER/HILL
SCOLA/BEASLEY/PATTERSON
ARIZA/BARNES/BUDINGER
HAMILTON/THORNTON
PAUL/LOWRY
Miller for LLE
Hayes + Andersen for Beasley
Barnes for vet min.
Battier (7,429,500) + Jeffries (6,883,800) for Hamilton (12,500,000) - Also saves us 1.7m
Detroit does it to cut Hamiltons contract out. They have shopped him for the last year. Battier is happy to play in his hometown.

I think he's more of a lithium kinda guy. Wasn't David Foster Wallace on Haldol ? That stuff is _mean_.

Beasley is expiring next year. He can score in double figures in 20 minutes, next to Dwayne Wade as a ball hog and Mario Chalmers as a (not very good) distributor. If he stays somewhat sane, he can be flipped for his emerging talent, or the state of his contract. Our current crop of expirings OTOH, are a bit on the stiff side on the talent spectrum.
I also think one of our current prospects apprenticing under Hayes/Scola could be swapped out for Beasley. We would get more roster spots. Since it doesn't look like the the marquee free agents want anything to do with the Houston franchise, incremental upgrades via project players seem to be the only route left.
I never said this would be a straight up trade between Miami and Houston. Someone else needs to come in. I just think Beasley is a good target to pursue.
