The next time you have a girlfriend, when it comes time to break up with her, do it in front of all her friends and family. With a megaphone. At her brother's wedding. Put it on YouTube. If you survive (doubtful), the next time you have a girlfriend, when it comes time to break up with her, do it respectfully and in private. Be nice.
Now do you see why people might be a little pissed? It's not that he broke up with Cleveland. It's the way he did it. It was a dick move. Period.
I beg to differ sir. I'll tell you why.
Firstly, your analogy, while creative, is a bit off. See in your example, breaking up that way would be completely unnecessary. Nobody else needs to know besides you and her. So if you actually have an option of a private break up, you're dick if you go out of your way to announce it to everyone.
But there was no such option here. No matter how he chose to announce his decision, it was going to be very very public. Even if he released a tweet saying he was going to Miami, it would have been everywhere, and the same amount of people would find out. There was no possible way of keeping this under wraps. So the sting would have been the same for Cleveland no matter what. So the fact that he had his own special really didn't make a difference.
