OT: 2010 Hall Of Fame

Post#1 » by kam_soluusar » Sat Aug 14, 2010 7:38 am

Now first off, I want to get a couple of things straight.

It's the NAISMITH Hall Of Fame, meaning that international players do get inducted?

Has there ever been an Australian player inducted? If not, why is Andrew Gaze not there?

Many of you will ask, "Who the hell is Andrew Gaze?" He is Australian for Basketball. Andrew Gaze played in four Olympics for Australia, won at least three NBL, (our league) championships, played College Ball in Seton Hall, and led them to the NCAA finals, (where they lost, but still.) and he also won an NBA championship with the Spurs.

I see all these guys that I have never heard of getting inducted into the HOF. (A lot of you probably haven't heard of Andrew Gaze, so we'll call it even!) So I think I will start campaigning for Andrew to be inducted. Hell, if they are going to put two Jazz players in there, Andrew definately deserves to be in there. (Did I just liken Andrew Gaze to a Jazz player? Sorry, I wouldn't wish that on anyone!)

Magic's and Larry Birds Dreamteam speech was priceless.

Before we even talk about Andrew Gaze, where's Artis Gilmore and Spencer Haywood?

I remember Gaze from.. I believe it was the 96 olympics?

Guy V not being there is a travesty.

Lucky for all of us, the HOF is nothing more than a fancy "Official" "Most Popular" page from a high school yearbook. Unless you check the back of your class section daily for motivation that you weren't listed anywhere, who is and isn't in there shouldn't make a damn's worth of difference.

...And when Iverson makes it in, we can all heave a collective chuckle.
(I really do feel kinda bad about trashing the guy all the time as much as I liked watching him play between 98-02. He was very entertaining, he was just never any good.)

I am being serious. Andrew Gaze deserves a slot in the HOF for what he has done for Australian Hoops. He had a Jumpshot that would give Ray Allen, John Paxson and Steve Kerr penis Envy. I just see these international players getting inducted, people I have never heard of, and it made me ask the question.

Wait wait wait wait wait... was he the one that Barkley fought with during the Olympics but always spoke highly of, then got to the NBA for a year or two, then went right back to Australia?

Pretty sure you are talking about Shane Heal at the 96? Olympics.

Heal took a three, Barkley closed out and chucked an elbow as he ran by. Heal (being australian) wasn't concerned that the guy he was about to take on had a few inches and probably 100 pounds on him  (Edit: hmm it was Shane Heal, probably 150 pounds  )
Yeah he played one or two years, Timberwolves I think. Didn't do much.

But yeah Andrew Gaze = basketball for aussies. I'd never thought about the HOF for him really, but you have a point, the guy who was the greatest Brazillian centre ever gets in, ok, so shouldn't the greatest aussie player ever get in for International play, college play, olympics play and contributions to the game here?
